"You mean her team": WNBA fans react to Angel Reese's 5-0 record going into finals

A single graphic about a perfect postseason start has Angel Reese at the center of another polarizing debate heading into the championship series.

Reese enters the 2026 WNBA Finals with a 5-0 playoff record, a milestone that sparked mixed reactions online after a graphic noted she is the first starting center this century to begin her postseason career undefeated. The Atlanta Dream reached the Finals by sweeping the Washington Mystics in the first round and the New York Liberty in the semifinals.

“Angel Reese is the first starting center this century to start their playoff career 5-0,” stated an X post by Real App.

Reese, the league's Defensive Player of the Year, has been at the heart of the run. She has provided strong scoring and rebounding along with the physical presence and energy that teammates and coaches have repeatedly described as a catalyst for the group.

Across the five wins, as posted on X by Real App, Reese has delivered double-digit scoring and rebounding contributions while helping Atlanta stay undefeated. In the series-clinching Game 3 victory over the Liberty, she scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, continuing a trend of high-energy performances on both ends.

As the Dream head into their first Finals appearance since 2013, the discussion around Reese's perfect start underscores both her growing stature and the polarized reactions she continues to generate. Whether she is viewed as the primary driver or one piece of a balanced roster, the undefeated beginning stands as a notable achievement heading into the title round.

Fans react to Reese’s 5-0 record

The reaction reflects a pattern that has followed her since arriving in Atlanta via trade. Supporters emphasize her league-leading rebounding, defensive intensity, and ability to create second-chance opportunities. Critics often focus on efficiency questions or frame her success as more team-driven than individual. The 5-0 graphic intensified that conversation just as the Dream prepare to face the Golden State Valkyries.

Some argued the record belongs to the whole group and joked about her style of play. One fan wrote:

"You mean her team…. Rebound sloth ain't that hog."

Others questioned the record's significance given her history of changing teams, pointing to her move from Chicago to Atlanta.

"With playing for how many teams ??" one fan asked.

A few comments pulled in the long-running comparison with Caitlin Clark, using the moment to argue about who the better player is.

"But CC will always be better, as a player and human being."

Others took aim at her trade history, pointing out what her resume looked like before her move.

"What was she before team hopping?" one comment read.

Still, some fans offered a more balanced view, saying the credit should be shared with the rest of Atlanta's roster.

"It's not just her. Other players in Dream deserve the recognition.”

Do you think Reese deserves individual credit for the Dream's perfect playoff run, or is this truly a team accomplishment?
