While the Dallas Wings enjoyed another win against the Los Angeles Sparks, 104-96, veteran guard Odyssey Sims was taken off after an excruciating left ankle injury.
Sims was taken off the court with the help of a wheelchair, as she was unable to stand by herself. She looked to be in immense pain from the clip that surfaced online. She had a rebound score before the injury took place, playing only five minutes in the game.
The injury occurred when Sims attempted a layup in the lane and landed with her left foot on Cameron Brink’s foot. She rolled her left ankle in the process.
There are no further updates regarding the injury reported by the team. Sims has been playing for Dallas in her third stint, previously playing for them in 2016 and in parts of the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
The 2014 No. 2 overall pick is currently on a one-year standard veteran minimum contract. She played for the Indiana Fever last year and was crucial in their playoff run.
Although Sims was sidelined and couldn't play the rest of the game for the Wings, guard Bueckers came in clutch for her team.
The 2025 Rookie of the Year scored 18 points while also making a franchise-high 14 assists in the game, tied with Arike Ogunbowale for the record.
So how are the Wings really doing so far this season? And what challenge will they face next?
The Wings Continue Their Fine Form, Amid Odyssey Sims' Injury
Sims’ injury is expected to be a setback for the team, as she had been averaging 6.7 points and three assists per game. She played a crucial role as a veteran point guard in controlling the tempo of the game.
But the Wings were able to defeat the Sparks thanks to Bueckers, with Ogunbowale adding 30 points. The Wings now hold a record of 7-3 and stand second in the league standings.
This is also the best record for the Wings in the first 10 games since the franchise's move to Dallas in 2016 from Tulsa.
But they will face their toughest challenge yet: the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx are the only team with a better record than them, at 8-2 and leading the standings. They have won six consecutive games.
The Wings are on an amazing run themselves, on a four-game winning streak, and will look to continue it. The Lynx will play the Seattle Storm before the ultimate showdown between the league's top two teams on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
