Off the bench, Sophie Cunningham was absolutely unstoppable on Tuesday night as the Indiana Fever defeated the Toronto Tempo in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup game, 113-91. With this win, they also extended their winning streak to four games.
Cunningham scored her season-high 24 points off the bench, with 8-of-11 shooting from the field and also scoring 6-of-7 from the three-point line. After the final buzzer, she was quick to praise the team's collective effort and tempo.
"We have to just protect home court," she said. "Tonight was my night; it's a lot of people's night. We had great pace; we picked up defensively; we were just really nice. I'm just proud of our whole team, I think we really dialed in tonight."
Along with that, Cunningham was proud of the way the whole Indian Fever roster performed defensively. She reflected on how the team adjusted mid-game.
"We weren't just not getting it done in the first half; we were just a little sloppy with our turnovers, so it's just a focus thing. We started to dial in, and we did our thing, and I'm proud of us. We're growing; I think everyone can see we've started to grow a little bit."
Cunningham highlighted that the Fever were struggling with turnovers and first-half defense, but they have since worked on them.
So how do the Fever look after this win, and how crucial has Cunningham been to the team?
