Watch: Paige Bueckers Defends Teammate After Olivia Miles Foul

A matchup between two young players showed just how intense the competition has become. During a physical play, a single whistle led to a heated moment between Paige Bueckers and Olivia Miles.

Minnesota guard Olivia Miles committed a personal foul on Dallas forward Jessica Shepard as Shepard was bringing the ball across midcourt.

Right after the whistle blew, Shepard and Miles began exchanging words on the court. That is when Paige Bueckers entered to defend her teammate.

The incident took place on June 28, 2026, during a game between the Minnesota Lynx and the Dallas Wings. A video of the moment was shared by CBS Sports on X.

Bueckers stepped in as a leader for the Wings, which led to a verbal exchange between Bueckers and Miles.

Referees separated the players before things could go any further. The game officials did not call any technical fouls on either player for the words they exchanged. The interaction also marked the beginning of an on-court feud between Miles and Shepard.

The rest of the game remained competitive, but there were no more verbal exchanges between Bueckers and Miles.

However, Miles did receive a technical foul at the end of the 3rd quarter for arguing a non-call with the game officials.

Later in the fourth quarter, Dallas forward Maddy Siegrist fouled Miles on a drive to the basket. The referees reviewed the play and upgraded it to a flagrant foul.

Minnesota defeated Dallas with a final score of 85-77 after controlling the game from the start. Minnesota managed to secure the victory despite playing without its injured star, Napheesa Collier.

The win was also historic for Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve, who tied the all-time WNBA coaching wins record with this performance.

Despite the early tension, both teams' stars delivered strong performances.

Both Players Put Up Big Numbers After Their Heated Court Moment

Bueckers led the scoring for the Wings with 25 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Shepard also put together a strong performance for Dallas by recording a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

On the other side, Miles helped guide the Lynx to victory by scoring 21 points. She also added 8 assists and 3 rebounds.

The postgame media sessions did not include any comments regarding the specific foul or the trash talk on the court. For Dallas, Bueckers and Azzi Fudd talked about the home loss, focusing on how they plan to bounce back in the next game.

For Minnesota, Miles mentioned that it felt great to be back playing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Miles and teammate Kayla McBride discussed how they held Bueckers to just 1-of-6 shooting in the first half before Dallas made adjustments.

According to stats on the ESPN website, Bueckers is averaging 19.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game through about 17 games this season. Miles is currently averaging 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game.

How will this developing rivalry between the Lynx and Wings shake out the next time these two teams meet?
