A'ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, and Jonquel Jones were not the only MVPs in the house during the game between the Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty, as newest Miami Heat star Giannis Antetokounmpo sat courtside with his kids to watch two of the best WNBA teams go at it against each other.
The two-time MVP and NBA champion will join forces with Wilson's boyfriend, Bam Adebayo, to start a fresh chapter after a legacy-defining 13 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Earlier Tuesday, Antetokounmpo shared an Instagram Story of him knocking down three-pointer after three-pointer at the Las Vegas Basketball Center nearby.
Giannis witnessed the preview of what will be this year's WNBA Commissioner's Cup final between the Aces and the Liberty, as Stewart and co. took the win on the road against the Aces 87-76.
The duo of Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu was once again the difference maker for the Liberty. Stewart scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half, along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Meanwhile, Ionescu secured a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while also contributing with 4 assists. 2021 MVP Jones also had a hand to play in the victory with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
The Liberty built a lead of as many as 19 points in the second half, taking control in a third quarter that saw Aces coach Becky Hammon receive a technical foul when she chased a referee down at the baseline to contest a no-call.
In addition, the Liberty managed to somewhat limit four-time MVP Wilson from taking the game out of their reach.
Will We See a Repeat in the Commissioner's Cup? A'ja Wilson Reveals What Went Wrong
The Aces star scored 16 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field and was 0-3 from the three-point line. Not the usual stat line for someone of her stature, and Wilson was sure of herself postgame that we won't be seeing much of this.
“It was just one of those nights,” Wilson said of her individual offensive performance. “I was just shooting some blanks and it sucks, it stinks, but at the same time, I think everybody in this room knows that there isn’t going to be too many of these."
Apart from Wilson, Hammon acknowledged the Liberty's defense and believed they would learn a lot from this game going forward in the season.
Wilson and the Aces now need to turn a page in the game against Paige Bueckers' Dallas Wings on Thursday, a perfect test to figure out where they stand before they take on the Liberty again in the Commissioner's Cup final on June 30.
So, do you think the Las Vegas Aces will overcome the mighty Liberty next time around and lift the cup? Let us know in the comments.
