Watch: Naomi Osaka Steps on Court in Custom Detachable Skirt for Second Round Match

Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka has frequently used her platform to merge professional tennis with high fashion. Her walk-in on Thursday was yet another statement. Osaka showed up like a star for her second-round match of the French Open against Croatia's Donna Vekic.

In her first-round game at the 2026 Roland-Garros, Osaka had entered the game in a black skirt. She followed this up with a white skirt in her second round, with a bit of a twist.

Osaka walked into the arena in a metallic bronze sequined jacket and matching skirt. She paired the bronze ensemble with a long white detachable overskirt that dramatically trailed on the court.

Osaka looked confident as ever, walking down the clay court as her long white skirt again trailed on the clay.

She showed off a few swings with her racket and started to walk off the court. After two steps, the tennis star seamlessly pulled off her white skirt. The reveal momentarily turned the court into a fashion runway before play began.

During the first round of the French Open, Osaka pulled a similar feat, with her Eiffel Tower-inspired metallic brown look, which featured a pull-away black skirt as well.

Two hours after she walked into round two, the tennis star walked off the court, defeating Vekic in straight sets.

Osaka won the game 7-6(1), 6-4, booking her place in the third round for the first time in seven years. She will play American Iva Jovic in the next round.

Despite Criticism, Naomi Osaka Remains Unfazed in Her Fashion Choices

Osaka wore a similar dress in the first round against Laura Siegemund, who was very critical of the Japanese star bringing fashion into a tennis game.

The German player said that Osaka was putting on a “fashion show,” and took extra time to change her outfit. However, in response to Laura’s criticism, Osaka was even bolder.

"Sometimes people say athletes in show business or entertainers or whatever. I feel like, for me, Grand Slam walk-ons are the only time that I possibly feel like I'm an entertainer."

The world No. 16 was worried that she could be thrown out of the game because her sequined skirt reflected light. Neither the referee nor the players have had any issues.

She was asked if she planned on changing her outfit for every game.

"You know, I like to keep people on their toes. I think it's really fun,” she said.

With four Grand Slam titles, the Japanese tennis star is looking for her first French Open win. But the road to glory will not be easy for Osaka, as she faces the very best at the 2026 Roland-Garros.
