The co-founders, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, have founded the “Unrivaled” league from scratch as a 3v3 women’s basketball league that puts players first.
The financial world recognized the initiative quickly, as the value of the league grew to $340 million based on the contribution of 11 players in the NBA, both active and retired, who invested in three different series of financing.
NBA Stars Who Invested in Unrivaled Across Three Funding Rounds
Seed Round: Carmelo Anthony, Steve Nash, Tyus Jones, and Tre Jones were the key individuals supporting the first phase of financing for Unrivaled in May 2024. Anthony and Nash invested together to fund the project before it commenced in 2025.
Tyus and Tre Jones were also listed among the initial investors , which made them the first NBA players involved in financing the venture from its very beginning.
Series A: Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Richard "Rip" Hamilton, and Joe Ingles came aboard during Series A funding round, which ended on December 16, 2024, after$28 million had been raised, in addition to the previously raised $7 million in total funding amounting to $35 million for the league.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's investment via his venture arm, known as Build Your Legacy Ventures, was revealed as the round ended.
The league only disclosed Stephen Curry's involvement in March 2025, when it was reported that he was among the investors in anticipation of the first season's playoffs.
Series B: Unrivaled received investments from Trae Young, Franz Wagner, and Moritz Wagner in the Series B round, which concluded on September 8, 2025.
Because of this round, the market valuation of Unrivaled reached $340 million, a tenfold increase compared to its seed valuation back in 2024, with Bessemer Venture Partners being the lead investor of this financing round.
Thus, all three financing rounds saw these 11 NBA investors invest in Unrivaled, contributing to the creation of one of the most reputable new leagues in women's sports.
Will other NBA stars also join in to invest in Unrivaled with the continued growth in the league? Leave your comments below.
