2-Time WNBA Champion Center Reveals Her Take On Fever After Signing

Wrapping up her one-year stint with the Los Angeles Sparks, Mercedes Russell has finally parked her bus in Indianapolis. And it seemed like she had nothing to complain about.

“Oh, it's been amazing,” the 6’6 center stated, per an X clip posted by Rosalina Lee. “Everybody has been so welcoming. Everybody's saying they're there for anything that I need. So, it's been really cool. It's been seamless.”

Being drafted by the New York Liberty in 2018, playing 6 seasons and winning 2 championships with the Seattle Storm and stopping by LA last year, Russell’s 9-year WNBA tenure has “been on a whirlwind.” But coming to the Indiana Fever was really “smooth and slow” for the center.

And she has Damiris Dantas to thank for this. Following Dantas’ season-ending torn meniscus injury and surgery in early August, the team added Russell as a season-ending injury exception. And she is already getting the hang of the fanbase, too.

“The fans show up, they show out. You can definitely feel the energy,” she added to the same segment. “I know I've been the opponent, but now I'll be on the good side. The support has been incredible. I'm excited just to meet the Fever fans that I haven't obviously seen before.”

Moreover, after ticking down these two aspects, Russell had some honest admissions about the Fever’s big 3.

Mercedes Russell Praises Fever's Big 3

When we talk about the Fever’s big 3, you know the names at a blink. Kelsey Mitchell has been the Fever’s long-standing offensive powerhouse for 9 seasons. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston’s arrival in recent years has been a tide that raised the standards of the team and across the league. Russell added more to that.

“It's so cool to see just the growth and their abilities,” she added in the same interview. “I've personally known Kelsey for several years. And just the steady Betty that she has been for Indiana for several years is amazing. Adding AB (and) Caitlin to be their big three is really special.”

Russell, who averaged 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in LA last season, will now add height to the Fever roster and try to take some burden off Boston’s shoulders.
