"To Find That Heavy Mix": Paige Bueckers Comments on Adjusting to Her Offensive Usage

Paige Bueckers is evolving into the ultimate dual-threat weapon for the Dallas Wings. After an All-Star debut in 2025, the guard is opening up about her transition from a traditional floor general to the team's primary offensive engine.

Bueckers became a WNBA All-Star team player in her debut season in 2025. She was often used as a point guard last season to initiate the offense. With recent changes to tactics, Bueckers has responded positively.

"I love playing point guard. I love playing the shooting guard. So to find that heavy mix of both."

"Like I've talked about before, every game calls for something different. Last game I played a lot of minutes, initiated a lot of offense, so being able to adjust to that."

Paige Bueckers also talked about how she was used last season, being more off-ball and taking less initiative, letting other players take the shot. But things have taken a turn, with Bueckers now being the go-to shot taker for the Wings.

The UConn alum admitted that she loves shooting mid-range shots.

"It’s my favorite shot. It’s something that I’ve been working on since high school. I think it’s the toughest shot to guard because people don’t really shoot it anymore."

Coach Jose Fernandez has been using Bueckers to generate more mid-range shots, while also transitioning as a point guard to help direct the offense and pass the ball to open teammates.

Bueckers' gameplay style can be compared to that of an MVP superstar, with the Wings aim to leverage this skillset.

Bueckers and SGA Playstyle Comparison And How Wings Can Take Advantage of It

Recently, Bueckers also admitted that she is inspired by two-time reigning MVP and superstar guard for the OKC Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's game, as the NBA Western Conference finals near the end.

"I take a lot from Shai’s game. Just being able to get to your spot consistently."

And Bueckers can be compared to SGA too, as they're both mid-range shooting guards. Dallas needs to capitalize on her unique playstyle.

Both players use their highly fluid mid-range shots to create advantage, while also showcasing elite passing and playmaking skills.

Her current production reflects this as well. The 24-year-old has been averaging 19.3 points, five assists, and three rebounds per game this season.

The Wings play defending champions Las Vegas Aces next on Thursday. Bueckers' dynamic playing style as a guard will come in handy for them, along with Jessica Shepard, who has averaged 11.7 points, 10.1 rebounds, and six assists per game this season.

Dallas has won four out of the seven games they have played so far, and will look to improve their win ratio.

Aces have a better win ratio, winning four out of the six games played by them. It will be intriguing to watch how Wings will tackle a team like Aces on Thursday.

Do you think Paige Bueckers can use her SGA-like shooting to lead the Dallas Wings to a win against the Las Vegas Aces? Let us know in the comments.
