The Indiana Fever and their two-time All-Star Caitlin Clark played an important game in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup after two straight losses. Veteran journalist Jason Whitlock, however, was far from impressed with the game.
After losing against the Golden State Valkyries on May 28 and the Portland Fire on May 30, the Fever had a comeback against the Atlanta Dream, winning 83-71 on June 4. But Whitlock was unhappy after seeing the atmosphere in the arena.
"The atmosphere inside the arena is trash. Thrill is gone. Fever." Whitlock posted on X on June 4.
A game that saw the Fever come back from a flurry of woes lately did not make an impact on the journalist. This is because in the first quarter, the Fever were tied 15-15 with the Dream.
The fans thought it was going to be yet another disappointing defeat for the Fever. But Clark had other plans.
She racked up 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and gave eight assists in the game, all while throwing up at halftime. The visibly uninterested crowd went wild as soon as Clark's performance began to trend upward in the third quarter.
The Fever hold a 5-4 record after this win, and it will certainly give them a boost. But fans had a take on the Fever's criticism and Whitlock's tweet
Caitlin Clark's Performance Draws Mixed Reviews From Fans After Fever Win
The fans seemed divided in their opinion on the Dream-Fever game, with some backing Whitlock, while others seemed to enjoy the game.
"I was a sports fan that got interested in WNBA only because of Caitlin Clark," one fan said. "After this game, I'm back to college sports. So bad."
The fan seemed disappointed by the atmosphere in the arena, while another stated that the excitement had died a while back.
"Thrill has been gone Jason since last year but you're obsession with CC has blinded you," another fan wrote.
"LOL…there never was a thrill." A fan replied to Whitlock's post.
While some fans agreed with the veteran journalist's opinion, others took up the Fever's case.
"Don’t know who u r. But it seemed awesome on TV and the Fever won. What’s wrong with you???" a fan commented.
The fan disagreed with Whitlock's opinion and further took the Fever win as a positive.
"H*** are you talking about?? It was lit.. I went to today game."
Amid the whole scenario, the Fever took a much-needed win against a strong Atlanta side. They will play the New York Liberty next on Saturday, with the Liberty on a three-game winning streak themselves.
