Just one day after Coco Gauff revealed she was involved in a minor car accident before the French Open, Naomi Osaka opened up about a much more serious crash just days before the start of the French Open 2026.
Naomi Osaka earned a strong 7-6(1), 6-4 win over Donna Vekić in the second round of the French Open. After the match, the four-time Grand Slam champion revealed during her press conference that the car she was traveling in had been hit by a bus.
“Yes, we had a little accident two days ago. I wasn’t afraid for my life, but I did think: ‘Wow, this bus is really crushing our car.’ You could clearly hear the car breaking as it kept pushing us," Naomi Osaka said.
"The weirdest part was that the bus kept moving forward and forward. For a moment, I even thought it was going to flip our car completely.”
Even so, the 28-year-old stayed calm throughout the incident. “I realized that in dangerous situations, I don’t really panic. I just think very slowly: ‘Okay, this is happening.’”
That calm mindset carried over to the court as well. Osaka maintained her focus on the court despite the incident.
And if the accident did not shake Osaka, neither did the comments from Laura Siegemund about her French Open outfit.
Naomi Osaka Wants to Keep Everyone on Their Toes
Laura Siegemund lost to Naomi Osaka 6-3, 7-6(3) in the first round of the 2026 French Open. After the match, Siegemund made it clear that Osaka’s fashion choices did not impress her.
“I come here to play tennis, not to put on a fashion show,” Siegemund said after the loss. She later added that she “couldn’t care less” about the outfits.
The German also criticized the time Osaka takes to change before matches. She suggested that bigger stars may receive different treatment when it comes to tournament rules.
Osaka, however, showed no interest in changing her approach.
For her second-round match against Donna Vekić, she arrived in another eye-catching look.
“I like to keep people on their toes. I think it’s really fun,” Osaka said afterwards. “There's a community that I feel like has been built over my on-court outfits, so I just like to keep you guys guessing.”
Meanwhile, Osaka continued winning on the court as well. After defeating Vekić in straight sets, she reached the third round at Roland Garros for the first time since 2019.
Next, she will face Iva Jovic, who stunned Emma Navarro 6-0, 6-3.
