When Sophie Cunningham walked into a gym full of young basketball players, she expected the usual loud cheers and applause. Instead, the entire room went silent and did something that left everyone laughing.
The Indiana Fever guard shared the funny update from her Simple Truth Sophie Cunningham Basketball ProCamp. The event took place on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Carmel, Indiana. Cunningham could not help but laugh while describing the surprise during an on-site interview at the facility.
She stated, "Okay, I will say they’re the ones requesting that. They’re like, ‘Hey, can you point? I’m like, whatever you guys want… and so yeah, I walked in, and instead of like cheers and stuff, everyone pointed."

The video clip of the interview was shared by sports reporter Angela Moryan on her X account. The unusual greeting happened because the kids wanted to recreate a finger-pointing pose that went viral online.
Moryan captured the fun media interaction right at the Carmel campsite on Sunday evening. Interestingly, Moryan was also the one who posted the original video from Friday's pre-game warmup, which helped spark the entire trend in the first place.
The trend started after a playful interaction Cunningham had with young fans just before a game on Friday night. The youth camp itself brought together more than 300 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15.
The whole pointing trend started when a few young fans asked Cunningham to make a pose before Friday's game. She happily obliged, and the quick clip turned into a massive internet meme over the weekend.
Beyond the jokes, she used the platform to tell the young campers to work hard, stay confident, and stay true to who they are.
Her impact shows in how much effort she puts into helping these kids improve both on and off the court.
Sophie Cunningham continues contributing to the Indiana Fever
Since joining the team for the 2026 campaign, Cunningham has provided a veteran presence for the young roster. According to official WNBA statistics through the middle of July, Cunningham has put up brilliant numbers across 25 games.
She is averaging 9.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while playing around 23 minutes a night. She is hitting 48.4% of her field goals, 43.7% from three-point range, and 89.4% from the free-throw line.
That production became important when Caitlin Clark missed a couple of games earlier in the year due to back injuries.
Cunningham stepped into a larger role during those games, providing veteran leadership to keep the team competitive.
The hilarious scene at the Carmel camp shows why basketball fans appreciate her beyond just her on-court performance.
