"These refs are hilarious": Former Sky Forward's Ejection Rekindles Debate Over WNBA Officiating After Fever Incident

The Indiana Fever’s 113-91 win over the Toronto Tempo was overshadowed when referees failed to penalize former Sky forward Isabelle Harrison for a hard contact that left Myisha Hines-Allen bloodied. This missed call, occurring days after her previous ejection, has rekindled concerns regarding inconsistent WNBA officiating.

Harrison had received a Flagrant 2 against the Atlanta Dream on Sunday, June 14, for pulling her former Chicago Sky teammate Angel Reese to the ground in the paint.

This time around, Harrison went for another harsh challenge, this time on the Fever forward Hines-Allen. Hines-Allen went for a layup but was stopped by Harrison, with her hand hitting Hines-Allen's nose.

After that, Hines-Allen had to be taken away by a trainer with a towel wrapped around her face, having played just 21 seconds. She went out with one minute, 49 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

Interestingly, Harrison did not face any in-game foul or a subsequent suspension for that contact play.

Although her return was questionable, Hines-Allen stepped back on the court in the third quarter, playing for a total of seven minutes in the game.

After this incident with Hines-Allen, fans have reacted to Harrison's brutal hit and the officiating standard of the WNBA this season.

Fans Give Opinions On The Harrison-Hines-Allen Incident

The viral video replay of Harrison’s unwhistled blow to Hines-Allen’s face immediately polarized social media. It intensified ongoing fan frustration regarding the league's officiating consistency.

"These refs are hilarious…" a fan posted alongside a looping GIF of the clear structural contact.

Other Indiana supporters vented their frustration at the call, with one fan writing, "And the refs didn’t even call it!! How pathetic."

The sentiment aligns with a broader narrative among Fever fans this season. They feel the roster has been unfairly targeted by officials this month, as Caitlin Clark has also received four technical fouls so far this season.

"Hope she recovers during the game. We need her," an Indiana Fever fan wrote, indicating her contribution to the team. She has been averaging 4.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

Another fan was left disappointed that Hines-Allen left the court, stating, "Cause of a bloody nose," while also posting a GIF of Late Kobe Bryant saying "soft."

A fan showed sympathy towards the player, stating, "Well, when you get smacked in the nose… Hope she's okay. That looked like a pretty hard hit." The fan showed concern for Hines-Allen, hoping that she is okay.

Amidst the controversial injury to Hines-Allen, the Fever grabbed their fourth consecutive win of the season.

They currently stand second and third in the Commissioner's Cup and Eastern Conference standings, respectively. They also stand seventh in the league standings.

The Fever will now face the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, June 18. The Dream hold a 9-4 record.
