There is barely any comparison between Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers as cultural forces. Clark sits in a league of her own. But who is the better guard? There is conversation to be had.
Complex recently tried to settle the debate, and Bueckers took the lead over Clark. However, Peter Berry's article on Monday, Aug. 3 received pushback from a WNBA reporter.
"If you take away the top 3 players from every team, where would you rank the Fever out of 15 teams? 14th? 15th?" the WNBA reporter Michael Curley wrote in his post on X. "There's a reason why 2 Fever players are in the MVP contention despite being 1.5 games out from the 2nd seed."
Clark and her teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, are among the frontrunners in the MVP race. Removing them and Aliyah Boston would just make them a below-average team.
But Curley's pushback didn't stop there. He attacked Complex's further claims.

Curley furthered his attack on Berry's conclusion that Bueckers was a better player. He highlighted that the Fever star led in almost all of the major statistical categories.
"Identical record. 1 player leads in points, assists, steals, blocks, double-doubles, triple-doubles & true shooting percentage. And it's not Paige Bueckers," Curley highlighted another issue with the opinion piece in another post on Aug. 3.
In 26 games this season, Clark is averaging 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. Meanwhile, Bueckers is averaging 20.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.9 assists 0.6 steals and 0.6 blocks in 28 games.
Clark has a 1-0 lead in triple-doubles over Bueckers.
Bueckers' (+143 ) in plus/minus is higher than Clark's (+103). The Wings player also has a better offensive rating (120) than Clark (114) this season.
"My favourite part about that article is that they state Paige's "elite true shooting percentage" is a factor to why she's better than Caitlin when her true shooting percentage is lower than Caitlin," Curley added in another post.
Berry never explicitly claims that TS% was one of the factors that Bueckers was better than the Fever star. Instead, the overall scoring has been mentioned as one of the factors where the Dallas player has an edge over Clark.
Clark (60.6 TS%) and Bueckers (60.4 TS%) don't have a chasmic difference.
