Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) reacts during the second half of an WNBA basketball game against the Seattle Storm, Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Caitlin Clark received her third technical foul against the Chicago Sky, which Indiana won. She received a foul for swinging her arm in the air after a no-call by the referee, and it didn't sit well with an analyst.
Clark's driving layup was denied as Chicago's Kamilla Cardoso and Azura Stevens double-teamed her. However, Tyrone Johnson was critical of Clark's reaction in the 114-106 overtime win.
"I recognize that Caitlin Clark is a lot of people's hero. Caitlin Clark is also a villain. She is the most unlikable player, not in the WNBA, but in basketball," Johnson said.
"All she does is whine to the refs and complain, and she should already be thrown out of games. I am not saying she is completely talentless; she has a ton of talent, she is not a likable player," Johnson added.
Johnson compared her to LeBron James and Victor Wembanyama's conduct during games. He also mentioned that Clark's defense has been ineffective for her team and that she needs to change to win.
Meanwhile, the technical foul on Saturday, June 13, against the Connecticut Sun, brought Caitlin Clark one step closer to a WNBA warning letter.
Despite the debate, how has Clark and her team done so far in the league?
The Fever And Caitlin Clark Continue To Improve
After a rocky start to the season, the Fever are back to their winning ways. They've gone on a three-game winning streak after beating the Connecticut Sun 85-75 this Saturday and now hold an 8-5 record.
Although a threat on offense, averaging 20.3 points and 7.8 assists per game, Clark has not been the best at defense. She is averaging 0.8 blocks and steals per game. She has also given away the most turnovers by a player, at 4.5 per game.
Although the Fever have been great offensively, averaging 89.9 points per game, they have given away 41.4 points per game in the paint, ranking 13th in the league in this category. They also rank 11th in steals per game, averaging 6.5 steals.
However, Indiana has shown consistency and dominance in other parts of defense, allowing only 8.8 second-chance points per game, and ranking first in the stat.
They are also averaging 26 defensive rebounds per game, ranking fourth in the league for this stat. They will play the Toronto Tempo next on Tuesday, June 16.
