"That Was Ridiculous": Caitlin Clark Publicly Calls Out Referee After Getting Teed Up

The Indiana Fever won their third straight game against the Connecticut Sun 85-75 on June 13, but Caitlin Clark received a technical foul, making it her fourth of the season. The Fever star reacted to the whole situation in the post-game interview.

The referee initially called it a technical foul on Clark near the very end of the fourth quarter, but then changed it to a delay-of-game violation as well. Clark reacted to the decision during the post game press conference.

"The technical, I didn't need any explanation. I deserved it, but it was worth it," She said. "The delay of game made no sense. It felt like Tyler (Mirkovich) wanted to insert himself into the game, and that was ridiculous."

With just 22 seconds were left in the game, Clark deflected the ball out of bounds. The ball bounced back to her, and she attempted to kick it into her hands, after which she picked it up.

While she agreed with the technical foul, Clark criticized referee Mirkovich's decision to consider the incident a delay-of-game violation.

"So, not a point in the game he needed to call that. I went and got the ball, went off my foot off the scorer’s table, and he gave us a delay of game which is a team technical foul. You can ask Tyler, I don’t agree with that."

Clark later remained adamant about her statement, further saying that she disagrees with the technical foul given to the team. She urged the reporters to ask Mirkovich about the same.

But what does this technical foul mean for Clark going ahead?

What Four Technical Fouls Mean for Caitlin Clark

After receiving yet another technical foul of the season, Clark has now received a total of four technical fouls this season. According to the WNBA disciplinary structure, a player receives a $500 fine for each of the first three technical fouls.

From the fourth to the seventh technical fouls, the players are charged $1000 each and receive a warning letter after the fifth technical foul. That means Clark is just one foul away from getting that letter.

Also, she is now closer to being sat out of a game if she receives her eighth technical foul of the season. This means that Clark will now need to be careful.

Despite the controversy, the two-time All-Star delivered on court, scoring 25 points, adding five assists, and having three rebounds.

Amid the whole Clark-foul saga, the Fever and Clark are in form. The Fever hold a record of 8-5 now and will face the Toronto Tempo on Tuesday, June 16. Toronto currently holds a 7-6 record.
