While Angel Reese helped the Atlanta Dream’s grind to a playoff berth, fans didn’t find whatever her former Chicago Sky coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, had to say about her agreeable.
“This is a level of confidence that you see in her, because now she's shooting. She's trusting her work,” Weatherspoon said, per a recent X clip posted by NBA TV. “It's no longer just underneath the basket, rebounding. She has now added the addition to her game of perimeter, outside the arc.”
She pulled out the numbers to compare Reese's last season with the Chicago Sky to this one with the Dream. In 2025, Reese attempted 11.1% FG, 0.7% 3P, and 5.7% FTs; in 2026, 13.1% FG, 1.3% 3P, and 6.1% FTs.

Per the former Sky coach, Reese is now getting more aggressive, trusting her shots, and playing a more complete game. In fact, “She's making herself very difficult to defend.”
But fans spotted a critical flaw in Weatherspoon's analysis.
Fans Revealed How Weatherspoon’s Numbers Don’t Add Up
The first thing is that Weatherspoon showed the shots attempted, not the shots made. In 2025, Reese shot 45.8% FG, 18.2% 3P, and 75.6% FT. In 2026, her split is 43.5/18.0/73.8. If anything, the numbers have gone down, and fans were far from buying that she’s in an “offensive hub” now.
“This is so stupid. Offensive strides? Year over year, Reese is down in FG%, 2Pt%, 3Pt%, eFG%, TS%, FT%, rebounds, and assists. Worse in every metric. Taking more shots while shooting worse isn't a good thing,” wrote a fan.
Another agreed, “attempts don’t mean anything if the ball doesn’t go in.”
In the Dream’s latest 83-101 loss to the Portland Fire, Reese posted 16 points (5-of-14 from the field) and 16 rebounds. But layup misses keep being an undeniable part of her game, and fans struck that exact chord.
“These idiots are gaslighting everyone. She missed nine layups, and they lost. Great game,” wrote a fan. Another added, “Are we serious? 5-14 and lost by 18 to a non-playoff/expansion team?”
One fan concluded that the overall attempt of the media and analysts to promote Reese beyond her expertise is the reason why she gets criticized more often.
“The manufactured attempt to push & promote Angel Reese well past her earned accolades is a disservice to Angel, as it generates easy criticism as the facts defy the narrative,” they wrote.
While these contradict Weatherspoon, Reese’s career is just beginning. As more years follow, she’ll get the chance to actually live up to the hype people like Weatherspoon create around her.
