“Take a Seat”: Cheryl Miller Weighs In on Caitlin Clark’s Tense Bench Incident With Fever Coach

It was a game of frustration for the Indiana Fever against the Portland Fire, and that feeling caught on in the sidelines as well, as Cheryl Miller gave her say in the heated moment between Caitlin Clark and head coach Stephanie White.

The incident occurred during the timeout, and a fan saw White and Clark arguing on the bench during a break in the action, presumably over defense. After a few seconds, Clark got off the bench after saying something to White that irked her.

WNBA legend Cheryl Miller spoke about this incident on a May 31 segment on NBC. The Hall of Famer believes the relationship between Clark and White is looking rather bleak, especially now that the incident has gone public.

"Right now, it's frustration. And unfortunately, it's boiling over, and it's being seen. It’s one thing to have it behind closed doors. But when it spills over, and when the coach has to basically say, 'Hey, you know what, Caitlin, enough is enough. This is too disruptive, in and out, take a seat,'" Miller said, per an X post from Underdog WNBA.

This exchange has become one of the most discussed moments of the WNBA weekend, as the situation escalated after Raven Johnson was moved into Clark's seat on the bench. Clark showed visible frustration after her spat with White.

The Fever ended up losing the game 100-84 to the Fire, and Clark had her worst game of the season. The 24-year-old scored only 6 points in 1-of-7 shooting, along with 6 assists and two missed shots from outside the arc.

While we all know that CC22 will be back to her scoring prowess in no time, the Fever need to sort out any and all issues beyond the court right now, until it is too late.

Why the Fever Cannot Go Ahead with Such Internal Tension

The Fever came into the season as one of the favorites for the WNBA title, and so far, they have not turned out to be one of the best teams of the season despite having stars like Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston.

And this latest interaction just adds more fuel to an already inconsistent setup. The Fever is currently 4-4, and increased tension in the locker room is the last thing they need to get back to a proper run.

Passionate disagreements between a star player and a coach happen in every sport, and there is no information yet that the relationship between Clark and White is beyond repair.

With that in mind, both parties need to settle any differences as soon as possible to make a fresh start on the road to the playoffs.

The next matchup for the Fever is a hot one, as Caitlin Clark meets Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream (5-2) on Friday for the first time this season, and expectations could not be higher for this one.

So, do you think the Indiana Fever will be all refreshed up by the time the Atlanta Dream comes calling?
