Four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson pushed back on the speculation that she is a to-be parent. The superstar athlete addressed the fake pregnancy reports and spoke about her life as a woman in the public eye.
In an interview with USA TODAY from May 28, Wilson spoke about how people have been making claims regarding her becoming pregnant, after she said in an interview with Vanity Fair about her desire to become a wife and a mother.
"Stop putting women in these boxes that we have to be a certain way, or we can't have everything. I can absolutely have everything if I want to."
She further spoke about how her mother managed two lives at once as well, and how it inspires her.
"I see my mom and how she raised me. Being in that household, I saw that I can still be that and also be a b*** a** independent b****, like it can coexist."
Wilson also addressed the fake social media reports regarding her being pregnant.
"Why is my future even in a question. … I don't know. I've had fake sonograms of me (on social media) saying that I'm having twins."
The 2018 first overall pick also spoke about how she does not plan on parenthood anytime soon. She is only enjoying her WNBA stardom, living the life of the reigning MVP.
"So I really just honestly gave it to God. I ain't got really no timetable, I'm just vibing."
While she dismissed these claims of parenthood, Wilson's HC is confident that if the MVP were to become a parent, she would be competent.
"What I do know, is her and Bam will make phenomenal parents...They'll be great when the time comes, but honestly, that's just between them two."
While Wilson wishes to be a mother one day, the journey has been remarkable.
How A’ja Wilson's Mother Inspired Her Journey
In high school, Wilson was diagnosed with dyslexia, but that didn't stop her mother. Eva Wilson approached Wilson's coach, Dawn Staley, and began her WNBA journey.
Her mother encouraged Wilson to work hard while also working as a court stenographer in South Carolina, balancing both her roles.
Wilson was eventually selected as the first pick in the 2018 draft, and later retired her mother. Now, Wilson is a three-time WNBA champion and also holds the record for the most MVP awards, with four.
Not only that, her mother now serves as the executive director of the A’ja Wilson Foundation and also the COO of Burnt Wax Candle Company.
Wilson has come a long way from the nervous child at school to a 4-time WNBA MVP, with her mother there to support her all along the way.
