With both Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston being head coach Stephanie White's relatively injury-prone star players, she has had to make some difficult choices in her starting lineup.
As both players are fit to compete again, White and the Fever staff seem to believe it would be wise for neither to play in both legs of Indiana's back-to-back.
The first game is done and dusted, as the Fever lost to the Los Angeles Sparks 106-92. Clark played her first game after June 24 for 16 minutes, scoring 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
"[Boston] is gonna be out tonight. Again, with the back-to-back, Caitlin a back-to-back, Caitlin is gonna be active tonight; AB is not. Then they'll flip-flop tomorrow night," White said ahead of the game, per an X post from Chloe Peterson of IndyStar.
After the loss against a Sparks team without Kelsey Plum, the Fever's current season record stands at 12-9. They are still in playoff contention but need to manage their star players' minutes properly from here on out.
Plus, this means the Fever will have at least two WNBA All-Star starters on the court for both games (either Clark or Boston, plus Kelsey Mitchell) while also managing Clark and Boston's workload.
While White's flip-flop strategy makes sense, this means that Clark will not be available for the Fever's next game against the Phoenix Mercury.
Caitlin Clark to Miss Rematch Against Alyssa Thomas After Viral
Clark will not share the court with Thomas on Thursday, two weeks after a clash that resulted in a nationwide controversy following a loose-ball play.
This game has been highly anticipated after Thomas was suspended and fined for putting her hand on Clark's throat when the Fever and Mercury last faced each other.
However, Boston will take place for Clark, who recently had shed some strong words about this incident in her most recent episode of the Post Moves podcast.
"It was a Flagrant 2. That should’ve never been done. You don’t put your hand on someone’s throat and damn-near kick them on the floor. Like, it's a basketball game. What are we doing? So obviously, that was the right call," Boston said.
With Boston's latest comments and the Fever wanting to get back to winning ways, this can easily make for must-see TV.
So, who do you think is coming out on top this time around, the Indiana Fever or the Phoenix Mercury? Let us know in the comments.
