Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors have one message for Valkyries vs Aces

Veronica Burton, guard for the Golden State Valkyries, scored one field goal in Game 2, a 28-foot three-pointer against Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson. It clinched an 83-81 victory, and no WNBA team has ever come back from a 2-0 deficit in a best-of-five series.

Stephen Curry, the Warriors guard, posted a message to Ballhalla, the Valkyries' fanbase, before Game 2 at Chase Center via an X video post from the Golden State Warriors account.

"First off, shout out to the Valkyries who are going to take care of business tomorrow night here at Chase Center," Curry said.

The message was sent before Game Two, and the Valkyries delivered at Chase Center. They were almost always ahead, led by 17 in the third quarter, and held a 2-0 lead in the semifinals. No team in WNBA history has come back from that deficit in a best-of-five playoff series. Game three is Friday in Vegas.

Warriors' support did not stop with Curry. The team's account paused its game coverage to share a public service announcement-style post about Burton, adding to the Valkyries' enthusiastic update on her deep three.

In the caption on X, the Warriors wrote, "VERONICA BURTON IS CLUTCH @valkyries."

The name fit the player who had been benched in Game 1 for airballing two shots. Valkyries forward Gabby Williams matched her with a 13-footer; Aces guard Chelsea Gray missed, and with Burton's three-pointer, the score was 79-76 with 41.5 seconds to go. Her final tally was eight points.

The accolades coming in from across town were plenty, but the Valkyries were equally fast in recognizing one another's contributions.

Veronica Burton and Tiffany Hayes Trade Praise After Game 2 Win

In comments following Hayes' Game 2 performance, Burton talked about what Hayes brings to the table.

"When you have a teammate like that who you know will have your back no matter what, it brings a level of joy to the game. We wouldn't be us without her," Burton said.

Hayes responded in kind when asked about Burton's 28-footer.

"I think I held my breath the whole time the ball was in the air." She added, "It was a huge shot that just shows you her leadership and her still keeping her head in the game."

Hayes started the second quarter with a three-pointer on a second-chance shot, scored 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting, and was perfect from the free-throw line by going 8-for-8. Burton then countered with the biggest shot of the night when the game was on the line.
