Sophie Cunningham Advocates for Farmland Protection Amid AI Data Center Expansion

One thing about Sophie Cunningham is that she is never afraid to speak her mind, be it on the court or on issues far beyond the WNBA.

Cunningham is usually very active on social media, and she did not hold back her thoughts on data centers while she progresses through the second half of the 2026 WNBA season.

“So how do we save our farm land and stop all these dumb data centers?” Cunningham wrote on X. The post quickly attracted attention from people on both sides of the increasingly complicated debate.

While some agreed with Cunningham’s concern about losing agricultural land, others argued that data centers occupy only a small percentage of the available farmland in the United States and provide important economic benefits.

Cunningham's sentiment comes after the Wall Street Journal recently reported that the farming community is pushing back against the data-center construction.

This has spread wide-ranging concerns spanning from ecological concerns and noise/light pollution to growing A.I. fatigue. And Cunningham, who grew up on a farm herself, is the latest personality to raise her concerns over this matter.

With so many reactions received, Cunningham's following has certainly increased this season, as she continues to be the enforcer for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

Sophie Cunningham Has Fully Embraced the Enforcer Role

Caitlin Clark's face of the league tag definitely brings unwanted attention from opponents on the court. While she has managed to fight her way through, Cunningham has been the one constantly defending Clark when it has mattered.

Cunningham has never failed to make her presence felt for Clark and her teammates, whether by taking down those who bully Clark or by getting in the faces of opponents determined to harm Caitlin.

There is a reason she is known as the enforcer of the team, and she recently revealed that such actions also help in building the team chemistry in a league where constant shake-ups are happening every season.

“Our league is hard from top to bottom. I don’t care if you’re ranked first in the league or if you’re 15th in the league, it’s a hard league to play in, it’s a hard league to play in,” Cunningham said. "Each year, there is a different roster, different type of expectation, different type of chemistry.”

Moreover, Cunningham has improved her box score stats and is now a reliable backcourt partner to Clark, be it as a starter or coming off the bench.

So, do you think Sophie Cunningham deserves more recognition for the Indiana Fever's successes this season? Let us know in the comments.
