Tennis legend Venus Williams and rising star Alexandra Eala lit up the Bad Homburg Open with a commanding doubles Round of 16 victory, securing their place in the quarterfinals. The pair's win sparked excitement among fans, who celebrated the duo's march into the final eight of the tournament.
Williams and Eala defeated the unseeded duo of the Australian Alexandra Osborne and American Catherine Harrison by 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday, June 24.
The duo will now face the No. 2 seeds Tereza Mihalikova of Slovakia and Olivia Nicholls of the United Kingdom in the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open. Journalist José Morgado also shared the moment of the duo winning on X.
Eala and Williams have both been on their separate journey.
Eala rose from 35th to 30th in the world rankings, her career-best ranking to date, after a brilliant performance at the WTA 500 Berlin Open, reaching the semifinals. She lost to World No. 10 Linda Nosková in the semifinals.
Williams, on the other hand, is set to return to her 25th Wimbledon with her sister Serena Williams as wild card entries to play doubles in the Grand Slam. She recently shone at the 2026 Met Gala as well.
Williams’ decision to return to doubles at 43 stands out as a rare late-career move in her storied journey.
"It will be unbelievable to go out there," Williams said in an interview with Grazia, about partnering up with her sister since the 2022 US Open. "We know that both of us have the potential to play great. We hope that we can make that happen."
While Williams and Eala continue to push to the finals of the tournament, fans reacted to the win as well.

"Sobbing right now," one fan commented on Williams and Eala winning their first match together.
"Venus + Alex is such a vibe. Love seeing them having fun out there," another fan praised the way the duo linked up and enjoyed their time during the match.
"I love this team up!!! Thank you Venus for picking Alex."
A fan appreciated Williams for picking up the Filipino as her partner after she eliminated some of the big names.
Additionally, she defeated the Queen’s Club champion Donna Vekić in the first round, world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the second round, and world No. 8 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals of the Berlin Open.
"Super love seeing them enjoying together.. Hope more matches to come.."
Williams has won her second doubles match of 2026, after winning her first of the year at the Mutua Madrid Open with Great Britain's Katie Boulter against Jiang Xinyu and Xu Yifan 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
"We love it! They are both lovely! Smiling." A fan commented on how both Williams and Eala were seen smiling and hugging each other after the match, as posted by WTA.
The win also meant a lot for Eala after she lost the first round of the singles match 6-3, 6-3 against Belgium’s Elise Mertens.
