It was a huge victory for the Indiana Fever and WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who beat a rather strong opponent, the Atlanta Dream, 83-71, on Wednesday. The Dream came into this game with a 6-2 record, and it was Kelsey Mitchell who proved to be the kryptonite for them.
Both Clark and Mitchell were at the top of their form in this game, with Mitchell scoring 25 points and Clark scoring 17 and making eight assists. After the game, Clark shared a lovely message for her experienced teammate, who was pivotal in their win.
"I think that stretch she went on in the third quarter kind of helped us bolster a little bit of a lead," Clark said. "She's given her heart and soul to this organization, so we need to give her a lot in return. Really happy for her. More than anything, she's just a great human, so lucky that she's my teammate."
Mitchell was crucial in the third quarter. She scored 11 of the 24 points the Fever made in Q3, going 100% on shooting, making 5-of-5 field goals.
Caitlin Clark is also right about Kelsey Mitchell giving her heart and soul to the Indiana Fever, as she currently tops the team's scoring chart, averaging 21.1 points per game.
Moreover, on Thursday, the 30-year-old became just the second Indiana player after Tamika Catchings and the 30th WNBA player to surpass the 5,000-point milestone.
Mitchell also scored 25 or more points for the 47th time in her career, which is the most by an Indiana player in WNBA history.
While Mitchell shone on the offense, the Fever also showed improved defense against the Dream after coming under fire last week.
Caitlin Clark On Her And The Fever's Defensive Performance
Lately, fans and journalists have criticized the Fever's poor defense stats. According to Stat Muse, the Fever has allowed rivals to score 87 points on average per game, ranking fourth-worst.

But the Fever has turned the defense to their advantage. They restricted the Dream to just 71 points. This marks the fewest points allowed by the Fever since September 7, 2025, when they restricted the Washington Mystics to 65.
Caitlin Clark praised the team for their defensive work, saying:
"We guarded really, really well," she said. "If we're able to do that for the rest of the year, we're gonna be in a really good position to be successful."
Clark also revealed how she worked on her defense and impressed herself, adding:
"Just went back and watched a lot of clips, especially defensively," she said. "I thought I played really good defense tonight. Obviously, I didn't probably shoot the ball as well as I liked. But this is probably one of the best floor games I played in my time in the W."
With this win, the Fever are now 5-4 and will face the New York Liberty in the next game on Saturday, June 6. The Liberty will enter the matchup with a 6-4 record this season and is on a three-game winning streak right now.
