'She's Not Tiger Woods': Geno Auriemma reveals the real reason Caitlin Clark hype created a WNBA backlash

Caitlin Clark's rookie season has flooded arenas and TV ratings, but the noise around her remains louder than the game itself. Geno Auriemma explained why the impossible expectations placed on her led to the problems.

Auriemma addressed the constant talk surrounding the young guard and the backlash surrounding the WNBA. Auriemma noted that the player herself is not responsible for the chaotic situation surrounding Caitlin Clark.

"When Tiger came in the PGA Tour, he changed the PGA Tour forever. Why, well, there was so much money that came to the PGA Tour, but in addition he won every tournament. So, that's the big difference," he said.

Auriemma made this comparison during his appearance on the Sports Media with Richard Deitsch podcast. He also argued that the hype was created by parts of the media and the public.

Auriemma explained what he meant by comparing Clark to Tiger Woods. He mentioned that she has brought new television viewers, money, sponsorships, and attention to the WNBA.

But also needs championships and winning at the highest level, which Woods achieved.

He did acknowledge a few players might want to play her tougher than others. However, hard fouls happen to many top draft picks and should not become a national debate.

The Fever's playoff push depends on Caitlin Clark's consistency

A report from NBC News highlighted record Indiana Fever attendance, higher TV ratings, and increased franchise values. But she needs to prove her hype on the court as well.

In the current season, she averages 21.2 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per night. Despite her Rookie of the Year award and All-Star appearances, Clark has not yet won an MVP or WNBA championship.

The Indiana Fever are having a great season as a team. They hold a 12-8 record and sit in a good playoff position. Clark's health throughout the rest of the season will be very important for their playoff push.

Kelsey Mitchell is providing great scoring, while Aliyah Boston brings leadership. Contributions from players like Lexie Hull are also making a big difference.

We all see the packed arenas, but the debate on dominance is just heating up. Drop your take on whether a player needs a ring to define their impact?
