Sophie Cunningham knows how quickly a single moment can take on a life of its own. Her own viral finger point earlier this season kept her in the spotlight for weeks. Now, with A'ja Wilson facing a similar wave of attention, Cunningham has weighed in with a take that has fans picking sides.
The attention on Wilson stems from Game 2 of the Aces-Fever series. In the fourth quarter, Wilson collided with Cunningham and a foul was called on the Fever guard. A fan near the baseline then stood and pointed at Wilson, who walked toward him. She drew a technical for it, and Cunningham has since shared her take.
Appearing on the No Hesitation Show, Cunningham said the league let Wilson off lightly. She argued a technical foul was a mild result for leaving the court to confront a fan, and that Wilson's star status is why no suspension followed.
"That could have called for a suspension," Cunningham said on the 'No Hesitation Show' podcast. "But she's like the LeBron James of our league, so of course they're not going to suspend her. There's definitely a double standard."

Cunningham also said she didn't believe the fan had done anything wrong, adding that if the league wants passionate fans, pointing comes with the territory. She went further, saying players should be grateful to make a living playing basketball and inspiring the next generation.
Wilson saw it very differently. After the game, she defended her reaction, saying she wouldn't accept a man stepping toward her and pointing at her, whatever the context.
Wilson's reaction and Cunningham's response have left the league's following split, and the reaction online has been just as divided.
WNBA fans react to Sophie Cunningham's comments about A’ja Wilson fan interaction
Kyle Ingram shared a clip of Sophie Cunningham talking about the incident on the podcast on his X account, and several fans took to the comments to share where they stand on Cunningham's remarks.
One fan appeared to agree with Cunningham, offering a short but telling response to her comments.
"She isn't wrong."
Another fan echoed a similar sentiment as they commented,
"Sophie speaking facts."
One fan, however, had a very different reaction to Cunningham’s comments.
"I never seen more interview clips from someone who does nothing on the court s**** crazy"
Cunningham’s comments also drew some pushback, with one fan taking a particularly personal shot at the WNBA star.
""Like, Grow up!" - says the young woman who was wrapped in a blanket, sippin star bucks, talking s***."
Another fan appeared to be firmly in Cunningham’s corner, offering a brief response to her remarks.
"Ms. Cunningham speaks the truth about the WNBA."
Cunningham has never been shy about speaking her mind, and this time fans are just as ready to answer back. One pointing moment has turned into a bigger debate, and neither side looks ready to back down.
