While the Indiana Fever extended their record to 21-12 following a 106-92 victory against the New York Liberty, the talk of the town was still about matters outside the court, as head coach Stephanie White's recent comments regarding Sophie Cunningham and DiJonai Carrington still ring in everyone's ears.
However, Cunningham believed otherwise in the postgame press conference, as the Fever guard defended White and insisted that the locker room was as united as ever.
“Our locker room in there, it’s tight, and we have each other’s backs. Coach loves us. She didn’t see the clip. And you know what, DiJonai is a hell of a player, she’s a great defender, and (White) coached her for I don’t know how many years up in Connecticut, so give her her flowers, and she didn’t see it, and that’s okay."
"Me and Steph are great. Steph is great with all of us, and so it’s really the outside noise that’s trying to distract us. But we’re good.” Cunningham said postgame.

The clip in question is obviously the now-infamous scuffle between Cunningham and Carrington during the Indiana-Chicago game, as the Fever guard received a hard foul from Carrington while driving to the hoop.
Carrington received a Flagrant 2 and was subsequently ejected from the game. This incident became a talking point, thanks to Carrington's comments on social media following her ejection.
But in a shocking turn of events, instead of taking Cunningham's side, White decided to defend Carrington's hard foul and shared her thoughts about playing hard and not allowing anyone to get an easy bucket.
"She's going to compete, no one's going to walk in for an easy layup, so I don't oppose the hard foul. It was a hard foul. I don't think that Dijonai intentionally came out to get [Sophie] across the neck like she did, but it did happen and I thought it was the right call." White said following the game against the Sky.
Regardless, White then clarified in Tuesday’s pregame availability that she did not see the play in real time and called the foul “egregious” after she watched it.
While the Indiana Fever are always at the center of controversy this season, that does not stop them from being one of the strongest teams in the league.
Tuesday was another example, as Clark, alongside Kelsey Mitchell and even Cunningham, helped the Fever topple the mighty Liberty.
Indiana Fever Backcourt Duo Strikes Again as Cunningham Shows Her Importance
Clark and Mitchell once again went bananas, as they are easily the WNBA's best backcourt duo at the moment, the Splash Sisters, if you may.
The duo accounted for 50 of the Fever's 106 points against the Liberty, with Clark scoring 22 and Mitchell adding in 28. The two are frontrunners for the MVP award this season, with the likes of A'ja Wilson and even rookie Olivia Miles in the mix.
Meanwhile, Cunningham scored 12 points off the bench, including four threes, but her standout moment was on the defensive end.
Cunningham ran the width of the court and jumped to block Han Xu's three-point attempt at the end of the third quarter. Her efforts raised the roof inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse and impressed the Fever head coach.
As the season has progressed, Cunningham has shown that she is a true team player, doing the dirty work for the team while also having her own clutch moments.
The Indiana Fever have another challenge ahead of them, as they take on Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings at home on Friday.
So, do you think a Fever player can win the MVP title this season? Let us know in the comments.
