She Can’t Help Herself’: Jason Whitlock Criticizes Caitlin Clark for Sideline Behavior While Sidelined in Street Clothes

A sideline exchange involving Caitlin Clark has sparked another debate. A prominent sports commentator took notice and is raising questions about player decorum when away from the court.

Jason Whitlock criticized Clark following the Indiana Fever's road win over the Las Vegas Aces. Clark missed the high-stakes contest because of a persistent back injury. She watched the game while dressed in street clothes.

The caption of Whitlock's post read, "Caitlin Clark was out again on Sunday, but she couldn’t help herself from showing up the officials, even in street clothes."

Whitlock shared a video clip on his X account on Monday, July 6, 2026. The footage came from his show 'Fearless with Jason Whitlock,' featuring an on-screen segment titled 'CAITLIN CLARK & THE WNBA'S OFFICIATING OBSESSION.

The moment that drew Whitlock's criticism occurred toward the end of the 2nd quarter during the game. Fever wing Lexie Hull made a tough fadeaway jumper right as the buzzer sounded.

Officials waved the basket off, which prompted Clark to stand up and argue with a nearby referee from the bench. A replay review later overturned the call, giving Indiana a tight 42-41 lead at halftime.

During the video segment, Whitlock broke down why he felt the interaction was unnecessary. He noted that with Clark out of action, there was far less attention focused on the referees, except for that single moment before halftime.

Whitlock stated that a person in street clothes should not be arguing with the refs, claiming this behavior frustrates coaches and represents an obsession with officiating.

Clark vented her frustration from the sideline without stepping onto the hardwood.

However, the team managed to bag a win on the road, proving they could adjust under pressure.

The Indiana Fever Continues Winning Despite Clark's Absence

The Fever secured an 84-68 victory over the defending champion Aces. The result marked Indiana's very first regular-season win in Las Vegas. Both major stars, Clark and Las Vegas center A'ja Wilson, missed the matchup due to their injuries.

Guard Kelsey Mitchell led the scoring with a team-high 27 points. Center Aliyah Boston recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Hull added 10 points.

With the victory, the Fever improved their record to 12-8 in the standings, winning their second consecutive game without their star guard.

Clark's absence was caused by a back injury that has kept her off the court. This was her third missed game of the 2026 season due to back stiffness and soreness.

Though she had returned to limited practice sessions on July 3, the training staff elected to keep her out of the July 5 game.

According to statistical data by ESPN, Clark is averaging 21.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game this season. Despite the wins, Indiana still relies on her scoring ability and playmaking to sustain their playoff push.
