Scott Agness Discusses Indiana Fever's Tension With Reporters Over Caitlin Clark Coverage

Scott Agness believes that the Indiana Fever is trying to focus its media coverage solely on games rather than any unnecessary outside noise following the viral courtside interaction between Caitlin Clark and head coach Stephanie White.

Agness put forth this observation after the Fever revoked his media credentials. They sent the long-time reporter an email that said the decision was due to “the spread of inaccurate and unsubstantiated information."

In a recent episode of Dan Dakich's podcast, Don't @ Me, Agness expressed the view that the Fever is focusing on letting its on-court performances do the talking to shift the narrative away from the media discussions surrounding the team off the court.

"There is a lot going on right now over there. And I think that's why it was so important for how they played last night to kind of try to quiet some of that. And it's reflective on the court." Agness said.

"I think if they came out and did not play well and weren't playing together, that would speak to maybe greater issues that are going on because it would be a continuation of the last week or two." The independent reporter added.

Apart from the known clash between Clark and White, another dispute traces back to the May 20th game against the Portland Fire after the Fever ruled Clark out with back issues roughly two hours before tipoff.

Agness, who has covered news surrounding the Fever since 2012, posted on X that this decision was part of a "strategic management plan" to protect Clark after the rough, injury-ridden sophomore season she had last year.

However, Agness received an email the day after his post that he was banned from accessing all Fever events. This update came after White addressed that the Fever is "not managing anything" and that Clark is "healthy".

Despite the scrutiny and media attention surrounding the Fever, Clark's fitness for the rest of the season remains the priority.

Caitlin Clark's Fitness Remains Front-of-Mind for the Indiana Fever

Clark has had a fruitful individual season with the Fever till now, but injury scares remain a topic of conversation since the season opener against the Dallas Wings, when she briefly exited the game due to back issues.

While the game against the Portland Fire marked the 24-year-old's first absence this season, Clark has been having issues for over a year.

She played only 13 games in her sophomore year after suffering a series of lower-body injuries. Now, with another issue surrounding her back coming up, the Fever needs to be even more cautious about how they manage their star player's minutes.

It also does not help that the Fever recently played their fourth game in eight days, which already puts a toll on the players' bodies.

The good news is that Clark has acknowledged her back issues and revealed that it is not anything serious. Still, Clark needs to stay fit throughout the season should the Fever have any hopes of making it to the playoffs, let alone the finals.

With the 2026 WNBA season now in full swing, the Fever's player management storyline will likely be a storyline, as it will be interesting how the Fever manages Clark going forward.

So, do you think Caitlin Clark's recurring back issues are a cause for concern? Let us know in the comments.
