Reporter Scott Agness Booted From Fever Events Over Caitlin Clark Report

Seasoned Indiana reporter Scott Agness had his credentials revoked following a report on Caitlin Clark's injury on May 20. The team objected to his usage of the phrase 'strategic management plan' to describe her recovery

Agness, in a blog post on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, stated that the Fever emailed him revoking his credentials. The Fever was not pleased with the tweet Agness made regarding Clark's injury.

"The Fever took specific issue with the phrase 'strategic management plan.' That’s their right, " he wrote. "However, it is consistent with what the team has been publicly emphasizing since last season — keeping the big picture in mind and taking a cautious approach."

Agness's original tweet stated that the move to not play Clark on May 20 was part of a strategy plan by the Fever in order to not overexert their star player.

The veteran reporter has been reporting on the Pacers and the Fever on his website, Fieldhouse Files, since as early as 2020. This revocation is a serious call by the Fever to suspend one of its most renowned news outlets.

According to Agness on his blog update, he had updated the report after Indiana Fever's head coach, Stephanie White's, pre-game interview, to present a fuller picture.

White's statement was a reflection of Agness's previous report.

“She’s healthy, we’re not managing anything. This is just a back issue that we want to make sure we give the time to be ready.”

Agness disagreed with the perception that his reporting was "the spread of inaccurate and unsubstantiated information", as the Fever claimed. He argues that his report was properly sourced and further updated as new information emerged.

Nonetheless, even after he asked them for a fresh start, the Fever reportedly stands by its decision. Caitlin Clark’s injury reporting has remained a point of contention for the Fever organization.

Caitlin Clark Injury Incident During the Portland Fire Game

If we go back to the Fire game on May 20, Clark was listed as active on the Fever's injury report, which needs to be updated by 5 p.m. at the latest.

But less than two hours before the game, Stephanie White announced that Clark would be out due to a back injury. This also led the WNBA to issue a warning to the Fever.

Fans were also left disappointed by how irresponsible the Fever have been in accurately reporting their biggest star's injury status.

Clark spoke to the media on May 26 regarding her back injury.

"I think it’s just finding the balance of when I maybe don’t need to be as aware and when I’m maybe a little too overaware. So still working through that, but I don’t think it’s anything of concern."

The two-time WNBA All-Star has since then made appearances in every game, with the Fever currently holding a 4-4 record in the league.

Clark will be expected to play the game against the Atlanta Dream on June 4, who, despite her injury concerns, has been averaging 20.1 points and 8.1 assists per game.
