Agness' X post showcased the rise of the WNBA, and some would even call it 'The Caitlin Clark Effect.'
With the 94-83 victory, the Aces qualified for the semis. Wilson scored 36 points while Chelsea Gray added 23 points.
On the other hand, the Fever's season again ended at the hands of the Aces.
However, the game turned heated with moments of controversy. Fans expressed their disappointment on social media.
Fans felt officiating was not up to the mark
Fans questioned the way the refs handled the extremely physical game. According to them, it should’ve been the Fever advancing to the semis.
"Too bad, the refs ruined it. Can you imagine if fever with CC in the finals? It would hit 5 million or more easily!" a fan wrote on Agness' X post.
One of the moments in question came in the second quarter. Fever guard Lexie Hull was almost flipped to the floor by Aces forward Brianna Turner. However, the foul was called on Hull.
On top of that, Fever head coach Stephanie White, who tried to challenge the play, was assessed a technical foul.
"Will they even reach 2.25 million total views over those 5 games now that the most popular team/players have been cheated out of an appearance??? That is the bigger statement!!" another fan wrote.
After taking an elbow to the face, Clark was left with an injured lip in the final moments of the game. However, the referees paid no heed to the injury, which she showed them closely.
“That was the peak Indiana played bad but the officiating was abhorrent and corrupt from not suspending Aja or any one or the terrible calls being made it was the worst experience I had watching a wnba playoff game,” a fan commented.
The foul differential finished 27-19 in favor of Las Vegas. White pointed out in the postgame conference that free throws made the difference, 35 to 20 in favor of the Aces.
Fans believed both the officiating and the coaches’ strategy led to the loss.
“Those same viewers saw how disgusting officiating was...and how dumb the Fever coaches are,” another fan wrote.
Fever’s season ended with the controversial loss, and now, there would be no Caitlin Clark effect in play. It would be interesting to see how the viewership pans out in the next round.
