The Dallas Wings controlled the game against the Toronto Tempo on August 13, but Kiki Rice kept the pressure on for more than 30 minutes, helping Toronto trim the deficit to just one point in the second half. That was until she slipped in the final period, fueling injury concerns.
After Rice appeared to hurt her ankle, the Wings’ staff kept her out for the remainder of the game despite her wish to re-enter. This has now left fans concerned about the extent of the injury.
"She's okay. She wanted to go back out there but we thought, 'no, that's silly,'" Sandy Brondello said after the game as per Underdog WNBA's X post.
Rice’s night took a sudden turn when she stepped on Odyssey Sims’ foot while driving through the lane. She went down in pain and initially needed help from personnel to leave the court.
After the moment that the Underdog QNBA X post captured, it was later observed that she was able to walk and return to the bench before the final buzzer.
Still, the ankle concern has fans watching closely. Rice already missed nearly two months of her rookie season after suffering a significant left ankle sprain in June, before another ankle scare in August.
This is exactly why fans have sent in their well wishes.
Fans are hoping for the best for Kiki Rice's injury concerns
As soon as news broke out that Rice was "okay", fans could not help but heave a sigh of relief.
"Great that kiki is ok," one user commented.
After her early June ankle issues, many fans did fear the worst, but hopefully she should be back in no time. Some fans even empathized with the hard fall she took after slipping.
"awwww kiki," another fan wrote.
Before leaving the game, Rice had already made her mark with 13 points, five assists, three rebounds, and two steals in 31 minutes. Looking back at this, many fans were happy about the latest update.
"Oh, thank god," a comment read.
Naturally, the ankle scare had fans holding their breath. Thankfully, that concern eased soon after, with Rice later walking back to the bench and appearing to be okay.
"Phewww," another user commented.
Some fans even spoke out of concern for her injury upon hearing that she wanted to re-enter.
"yeah that's silly kiki wtf," a fifth comment read.
The scare briefly overshadowed an otherwise impressive night for Kiki Rice, but the early signs offered fans some relief. Now, all eyes will be on her ankle as the Wings look to keep their playoff push rolling.
