What happened between A'ja Wilson and a fan during Game 2 was already a major talking point, but the conversation has taken a new turn. As footage of the heated exchange circulates, podcaster Rachel DeMita says clips of the moment are being hit with copyright claims, a move she argues has only fueled the controversy.
The moment came late in the fourth quarter, when Wilson collided with Sophie Cunningham, who was called for a foul. Wilson then pointed at a fan near the baseline and walked toward him, yelling in his direction. She was assessed a technical foul.
Podcaster Rachel DeMita addressed the incident on 'Courtside Club, ' talking about the WNBA removing footage of the A'ja Wilson altercation
"People are getting copyright claims on footage that they're sharing from the game," DeMita said in the clip she shared via Courtside Club on X. "Now, this is something that I wouldn't even have anything to say about it if it happened all the time, but it doesn't. So, anybody can claim copyright on the content that you post if you don't own it."

DeMita further pointed out why she finds the takedowns of the moment between A’ja Wilson and the fan unusual.
"The NBA is really lenient about people using their highlights specifically on Twitter and in short-form content. And we don't normally see the WNBA or these places kind of cracking down on that."
DeMita said the handling of the footage has added another layer to the controversy.
"Because of that, it has also added to the drama because now it's like, why are we scrubbing this? This was going to be controversial regardless. There are some people who think that she should be suspended."
DeMita did not say who is behind the copyright claims, and the WNBA has not publicly addressed them. For now, the clips of Wilson's exchange remain one of the biggest talking points of the playoffs.
Las Vegas Aces HC reacts to A’ja Wilson moment
Beyond the debate over the footage, Aces head coach Becky Hammon has also weighed in, speaking after Las Vegas' 99-89 loss to the Indiana Fever.
Hammon told reporters she did not see the moment itself, only what followed.
"I didn't exactly see what happened. I kind of saw the aftermath. I've never seen A'ja Wilson go like that," Hammon said, as reported by IndyStar. "Whatever was done, I can tell you she felt very disrespected in that moment, but I can just speak to her as a person. I've never seen her really react like that, ever. Whatever it was, he doesn't have any place, I don't think, in an arena."
Wilson, for her part, apologized to her teammates for the technical foul.
"I apologize to my team because I got us a tech," Wilson said.
Like Wilson, Hammon focused on how the moment felt rather than on what was said, and the fan's comment itself has not been reported.
