Renowned journalist Jason Whitlock has called out star guard Sophie Cunningham for spilling the beans a little too much while answering media questions on Monday, June 1.
The reason Whitlock was disappointed in Cunningham was that she revealed a rather secret locker-room meeting allegedly held to "peel back all of the layers." Whitlock responded to this comment via a live stream on YouTube.
"She's the hottest woman in sports, but she's out of control," Whitlock said. "She talks too much. She's building her brand constantly…The problem here is that Sophie Cunningham doing too much."

Whitlock constantly reiterated that Cunningham was spilling the beans to build and promote her brand, saying way more than needed to be told.
"Some things do need to be left in the locker room and a mystery," he further said. "Sophie Cunningham is clout chasing. She's doing too much content over everything."
The statement Whitlock responded to mentioned that the team was on the same page after the meeting, according to The Athletic.
"We had a long meeting yesterday; it was a really good meeting, so hopefully we’ve kind of turned the page and everyone’s kind of on the same page now,” Cunningham said. “We peeled back all of the layers, and so I think everyone’s on a good page right now and we’re ready to work."
While Whitlock was unhappy with Cunningham, he also took shots at management. He said that partly because of the chaos, the Fever's special consultant and senior advisor, Lin Dunn, and the head coach, Stephanie White.
"It's because the leadership in Indiana is so horrendously poor. From the top, (Fever senior advisor) Lin Dunn and her full-blown DEI coaching staff, including Stephanie White."
Whitlock has also previously criticized both White and Clark. He criticized Clark for her defense, while also saying that White has been playing the wrong system, as it doesn't fit their superstar anywhere.
But Cunningham has also given another statement regarding the Fever's criticized defense.
Sophie Cunningham On The Fever's Defense
Cunningham was not silent about how the Fever have been slacking off in defense and was quick to note that there needs to be some improvement.
"I think that’s something that’s hurting us right now: we’re only playing one defensive scheme," she said. "We probably had 10 (defensive schemes) last year. Each team has stuff up their sleeve, but if you can’t execute ‘em, you can’t do ‘em. And so this team really does have to focus."
The Fever have lost two straight games against the Golden State Valkyries and the expansion team Portland Fire. They have also been leaking points, averaging 89 points per game so far this season.
They currently have a 4-4 record and will face the Atlanta Dream next. The Dream boast a 6-2 record and is strong on the boards, averaging 37.4 rebounds per game.
The Dream will probably look to take advantage of that when they play the Fever on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
