Only seven games into her career, Olivia Miles is already exceeding expectations in the WNBA. She is redefining what the league's rookie point guards can do.
WBB analyst EJayArrow took to X to highlight the significance of Miles’ start, claiming that she has started one of the best rookie campaigns in league history with impressive averages of 15.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 5.9 APG, and 1.4 SPG.
Miles played for Minnesota in their first seven games, and those averages made Miles’ start to the season significant.
Miles leads the Lynx in assists, ranks third in scoring, and is averaging 1.4 steals per game. She has played in only seven games. Miles was instrumental in her first career game, scoring 21 points and adding 8 assists against the Dream. Miles’ comfort is not just reflected in statistics.
After the last game, Miles explained how easy the transition to the WNBA was and stated, "I came into the W kind of scared of stepping on toes. I didn't want to upset anyone. But it was so easy. The culture here, coming in, people just want to win, and I'm very blessed. I know this is very rare, so I'm very aware of that."
The culture to which she is referring is the culture that Cheryl Reeve, Lynx head coach and President of Basketball Operations, has built. She selected Miles with the second overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
Miles has started all seven games and built a solid pick-and-roll connection with Natasha Howard, who has been a solid forward this season. Miles is showing the court vision that helped her become a TCU AP All-American Second Team selection, playing with an average of 19.6 points and 6.6 assists.
This connection showed on Wednesday night, with one of Lynx’s most complete performances this season.
Minnesota Lynx Beat Atlanta Dream 96-81, Olivia Miles Shines Again
The Lynx hit all the right notes during their matchup against the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday night. Their 96-81 win at the Target Center not only improved their three-game winning streak, but was their first win against the Dream after opening their season with a loss to them.
Minnesota's five starters all reached 10+ points, with Courtney Williams putting up 25 points and 7 assists on 10-15 shooting. Howard focused on the same attack and compiled 22 points, 8 rebounds, with 5 assists, and a couple of steals and blocks, on 11-16 shooting.
Once again, Miles showed why she belongs with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and a career high 8 assists.
Her performance earned her a spot in the record books as she became only the fourth player to average at least 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in the first seven games of their career. The company she joins includes Candace Parker, Caitlin Clark, and Sabrina Ionescu.
The 23-year-old and second overall pick is establishing herself as one of the top players in the league and a contender for even more accolades.
