Olivia Miles is proving that she is in a league of her own. The Minnesota Lynx rookie made WNBA history on Wednesday after her 21-point performance against the Washington Mystics.
On her way to 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in the win over the Mystics, Miles became the youngest player to record 300+ points and 100+ assists in WNBA history. The record was previously held by Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark and Dallas Wings' Paige Bueckers.
Clark reached the milestone in 19 games in 2024, and Bueckers tied it in the next year. The Lynx rookie only took 18 games to reach the milestone. "Fastest player in WNBA HISTORY to reach 300+ PTS and 100+ AST," the Lynx wrote in a dedicated post on X.
Miles had already reached the 300-point mark in her previous game. She entered Wednesday’s contest with 314 points and 96 assists.
She touched the 100-assist mark with an assist to Natasha Howard with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Her 101st assist was also to Howard. With 335 points and 101 assists, Miles sits at the top.
This isn’t an isolated milestone that the Lynx player attached her name to.
Miles has stacked multiple records in rapid succession, surpassing both Bueckers and Clark as the fastest to 300 points, 75 assists, and 75 rebounds.
The Lynx’s rookie sensation is also tied with Bueckers for the fastest 250 points and 80 assists in the WNBA.
What has been the big factor in Olivia Miles' record-shattering season?
One of the biggest factors that separates Miles from Bueckers and Clark is her efficiency. Despite taking fewer shots than the last two Rookie of the Year winners, she has been able to reach the historic mark.
In 18 games, she has shot 52.2% from the field, which is significantly higher than Clark and Bueckers did in their rookie years.
Clark shot 41.7%, and Bueckers shot 47.7% from the field. Miles hasn’t been a great 3-point shooter (33.3%), but the case has been almost similar for all three players.
Miles took the playmaker's role from day one, which Courtney Williams was more than happy to hand over. Moreover, in the absence of Minnesota's primary offensive star, Napheesa Collier, Miles has become head coach Cheryl Reeve's go-to offensive option.
In 18 games, Miles is averaging 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks in 30.6 minutes. She leads the Minnesota Lynx in both points and assists.
With seven 20-point games so far and 26 games remaining in the season, Miles has a chance to break and create so many records. The trend seems to be in her favor.
