'Nobody Can': ESPN Analyst Rejects Caitlin Clark as a Top-Four WNBA Guard Despite All-Star Selection

While the WNBA world is disappointed with the fact that Caitlin Clark's peers have ranked her eleventh in the All-Star voting, ESPN's David Dennis Jr. has no issue with it whatsoever.

In fact, Dennis Jr. does not believe Clark is one of the league's top guards and even questioned how anyone else could rank her as such, especially in light of her finishing 11th in All-Star voting by her peers.

"I don’t think you can make a compelling argument that Caitlin Clark is a top-four guard in the WNBA. Nobody can at this point. That is why she was 11th. She got the 11th-most votes for being in the top four."

"So there’s really no controversy about that, especially when you add in the fact that she is one of the most popular players in the WNBA; she’s going to make the All-Star Game," Dennis Jr. said on First Take.

Dennis Jr. did not stop here and carried on talking about what he feels are narratives being pushed that the players in the WNBA are jealous and insecure of Clark.

"Caitlin Clark is experiencing pretty much what happens anytime a young player comes into the league with a lot of hype, especially the hype that she’s receiving.”

While the ESPN senior writer is entitled to his takes, it seems a bit too harsh to say that Clark does not even belong in the top 4 amongst guards.

Considering Clark's otherworldly numbers she’s posted since her rookie year, when she made First-Team All-WNBA, the reality is that it's much more difficult to make an argument against her being the best guard in the league.

Even after coming from an injury-ridden sophomore year, Clark is still head and shoulders above many of her peers in terms of production. Clark ranks fifth in the WNBA in scoring with 20.5 points per game and second in assists with 7.9 per game.

While it seems like Dennis Jr. will certainly not be changing his opinion anytime soon, a former ESPN anchor had some strong points to defend Clark's stature in the WNBA.

Linda Cohn Slams Players Over All-Star Voting

Former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Cohn was on the opposite side of the spectrum compared to Dennis Jr.'s statement and expressed discontent with the WNBA players who voted Caitlin Clark as the eleventh-best guard in the league.

"Small-minded mentality by the players, by this league. And I'm waiting for the commissioner (Cathy Engelbert) to channel maybe her inner David Stern." Cohn said on Yahoo Sports Daily.

This is not the first time Clark was ranked so low by her peers. Last season, the Fever star was ranked the ninth-best guard with the same voting criteria.

Thankfully, the player voting does not matter in the end, as Clark will be playing as a starter in the WNBA All-Star Game on July 25 in Chicago.

And with so many debates and criticisms surrounding this topic, all while recovering from her back injury, Clark has the power to shut it all down with a generational performance.

So, what do you think is the main reason the players snubbed Caitlin Clark in the voting? Let us know in the comments.
