"Needs a lot of work": Angel Reese's Shootaround Sparks Shooting Form Debate Before Fever Loss

Angel Reese might be one of the better scorers of the league, but there is a difference between a good scorer and a good shooter, and the Atlanta Dream star currently does not fall under the latter, mainly due to her form.

Reese's shooting form has not changed for the better since moving to the Dream from the Chicago Sky. She is left-handed, but that is not the issue, as you can be a great shooter with either handedness.

The problem is Reese's positioning, as she usually takes a step forward with her right foot while lining up to shoot, something a coach would never recommend.

In an X post by Kareem Copeland ahead of the Commissioner's Cup clash against the Indiana Fever, Reese was seen practicing her shooting from the corner, once again taking a step forward with her right foot instead of the left one.

Generally, a right-handed player would be the one moving their right leg forward, not the other way round. Doing it with the opposite side of the body creates an off-center feel from the very beginning of the shooting motion.

That said, it is not like Reese does not tick the box score when required. In 9 games with the Dream, Reese has averaged 12.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.

While Reese is one of the Dream's most reliable scorers, to be truly elite, a player needs to master the craft of scoring from anywhere on the hardwood.

Players like Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Plum, and Sabrina Ionescu are good examples of players who do both. While Reese certainly has the potential for it, she really has no chance once her feet do the wrong thing right from the beginning of the shot.

Meanwhile, fans on social media were also quick to notice Reese's shooting form, and reactions were obviously coming sooner or later.

Fans React to Angel Reese's Shooting Form

Many fans on X saw the clip from Copeland and were baffled regarding Reese's shooting fundamentals. Some even questioned her coaching and stated she should just focus on scoring layups for the time being.

"I’m a fan, but she needs a lot of work on her game and especially perimeter shooting." One fan forcefully overshadowed their fandom for Reese to admit that she needs a lot of work on her form.

"That's one of the goofiest shots I've seen." Another user expressed that Reese, a left-hander stepping forward with her right foot, does not really do any favors aesthetically, either.

"She should work on those two feet from the basket shots first. Walk before you run." One user believes Reese should first focus on her shots in the paint and then move to perimeter shooting.

"Terrible footwork and loading. Shooting two-handed as well. I have high school girls who shoot better than this." Another user was highly critical of Reese's form and also added that shooting two-handed should not be the norm at such a level.

"Nothing wrong with practicing them outside shots, just as long as she remembers she’s more Rodman than Curry during the game." One fan was rather sympathetic to Reese practicing her shots from outside the arc, but believes she should keep her game similar to that of Dennis Rodman, the most renowned rebounder of the NBA, rather than a three-point shooting machine like Steph Curry.

So, do you think that Angel Reese should only try scoring from the paint or that she genuinely has potential in perimeter shooting? Let us know in the comments.
