Caitlin Clark's surprise exclusion from the WNBA's 30th-anniversary poster has left fans in shock and confusion, and Outkick's Jon Root does not have the kindest words for the league's latest shenanigans.
The WNBA released the commemorative 30th anniversary poster on Wednesday for $29.99. The poster features every WNBA team in the league's storied history, along with almost all the stars of the past and the present.
While the likes of Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers were on the poster, Clark was conspicuously left off, and fans were quick to notice.
“The WNBA is the most i****** sports league of all time. Caitlin Clark is the BIGGEST superstar their league has ever had, who has single-handedly made the W notable for the first time in its 30-year history, yet she’s not on this anniversary poster. Absolute m*****,” Root wrote on X.
Along with Root, many others had a similar sentiment on Clark not making the cut for the poster.
After all, she completely revolutionized the WNBA when she arrived in 2024 as the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. She broke many records on the court, but it was her impact off the court that has had a lasting effect.
Clark has helped energize the league since her debut, and the examples are right in front of us. The Indiana Fever is the only team to have all 44 of its regular-season games nationally televised, with 39 of them played in NBA-sized arenas.
The WNBA's collective bargaining agreement has also seen huge improvement this year, with players receiving million-dollar contracts for the first time in history.
While Clark's omission from anything WNBA will always be a surprise, this is not the first time controversy has unfolded regarding Clark and a poster.
WNBA Ridiculed for Shunning Caitlin Clark in a Promotional Image
On 17 May, the WNBA promoted a graphic for two enticing games for its Sunday doubleheader. On one side was the Las Vegas Aces taking on the Atlanta Dream, with the usual suspects A'ja Wilson and Angel Reese featured on the graphic.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Fever was taking on the Seattle Storm. While Storm's Zia Cooke was their featured player, the league decided to put rookie Raven Johnson instead of Clark.
Naturally, this image received widespread attention on social media, as fans erupted on the WNBA to ask why they decided to use a bench player instead of the face of the league to promote the game.
Adding this with the 30th anniversary poster, eyebrows are obviously expected to be raised. Safe to say, fans will be closely following all of the WNBA's socials to understand if there is, in fact, any agenda against Caitlin Clark.
So, what is your opinion on the WNBA omitting Caitlin Clark from important posters? Let us know in the comments.
