When a three-time champion and Hall of Fame center calls someone the face of the league, it carries a different kind of weight. When the numbers back it up completely, the conversation stops being debatable.
Speaking in a studio segment shared by CBS Sports, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie made her position clear on where A'ja Wilson stands in the league right now.
"Well A'ja, you know, I feel like I didn't edify her enough of what she's capable of… A'ja has scored 69% of the Aces' points in the paint… [and] gets it done, and it's a plethora of moves: the left hand, over the shoulder… The jumpers are on point… She deserves all of the glory… This is the face of the WNBA."
Praise from Leslie is founded on the production that Wilson is generating. In the first 19 games of the 2026 season, Wilson is leading the league in scoring at 25.7 points per game, blocking at 2.0 per game, and efficiency rating at 29.2.
She is also getting 9.4 rebounds a game on average, shooting at 52.4% from the field and 40.9% from beyond the arc.
Such numbers are put into even greater context, thereby making the point made by Leslie even more evident. It should be noted that Wilson is the only player to have been named MVP four times in the WNBA, namely in 2020, 2022, 2024, and 2025.
In 2025 alone, she received 51 out of 72 first-place votes. She had also helped the Las Vegas Aces win three consecutive championships in the past four years and was signed to a three-year, $5 million supermax deal in April 2026.
She has also become the quickest to amass 6,000 career points in just 278 games, bettering the record set by Diana Taurasi of 291 games.
And if the resume still left any room for doubt, Wilson answered it on the court just days later.
A'ja Wilson Puts Up a Stat Line the WNBA Has Never Seen Before
Wilson did not just win on Sunday. She produced something the WNBA had never recorded. Thirty points, 15 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks in a single game, a combination no player in league history had ever put together, as the Aces took down the Sky 107-99 to move to 14-5 on the season.
This was not a comfortable victory handed to her. The Sky pulled within single digits in the second half and came in having beaten the Aces in their previous meeting. Wilson's 15 rebounds were a season high, and her four steals matched her best defensive output of 2026.
She has now scored at least 20 points in 16 of her 19 games this season. Wilson was averaging 23.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game entering that matchup, and the performance only strengthened a case that was already difficult to argue against.
