“Kid in a Candy Store”: Mercury HC Reveals Kahleah Copper’s Reaction to Kelsey Plum

The WNBA world was sent into a frenzy when the Phoenix Mercury traded for Kelsey Plum hours before the deadline, and it might have sent Kahleah Copper into one as well.

During a recent conversation with Nate Tibbetts, the Mercury head coach revealed how excited Copper has been ever since the news of reuniting with Plum again.

“Kah’s just been like a kid in a candy store the last 24 hours. She's so dang happy that KP is here. It's neat. This is the reason why we've tried to go get KP the last couple seasons.” Tibbetts said, via Mercury reporter Dylan Kane.

Tibbetts was definitely correct with his assessment, as the Mercury star could not contain her excitement now having the opportunity to play her former USA basketball teammate who matches her intensity and talent.

“I was super hyped,” Copper said via Chicago State of Mind Sports on X following the Mercury's Monday shootaround.

“I played with her as a competitor and won a couple gold medals with her. I know the kind of competitor she is. I know what she'll bring to the team as far as adding to our culture, and I'm just super grateful”.

While the Mercury's 11-19 record this season does not make matters easy, a backcourt consisting of Copper and Plum just might do the trick for the franchise to secure qualification to the playoffs.

Phoenix Mercury's Future with Kelsey Plum

Plum was on track for MVP honors this season if not for her unfortunate injury, which made her lose all momentum. But her scoring and passing talents are second to none, instantly making the Mercury one of the best offensive threats to any team.

On paper, the combination of Plum, Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas may be one of the best "Big Threes" in the WNBA. Between the trio, they are averaging 59.7 points, 16.5 assists and 13 rebounds per game.

But Plum and the Mercury are in a race against time for a late-season push to the playoffs, as they are five games back of the New York Liberty for the final spot.

Still, there are games left for Tibbetts' squad to turn it around, and Plum will be the x-factor that might secure them the qualification.

So, do you think the Phoenix Mercury's efforts to bring Kelsey Plum will come to fruition? Let us know in the comments.
