"Keeps Happening to Star Chicago Players": WNBA Analyst Compares Angel Reese, Skylar Diggins While Examining Team's Track Record

With the latest WNBA drama involving Skylar Diggins and her issues around the Chicago Sky as their key player, senior writer Brian Hamilton takes a deep dive into the franchise's history with handling its best players.

Hamilton took the example of Angel Reese, whose tenure involved inconsistencies on the court while also having disputes with the Sky front office.

Hamilton revealed that Reese must have felt she could not fulfill her potential with the Sky, and that is why her trade to the Atlanta Dream has felt so refreshing.

"My guess is she didn't feel like Chicago could give her that. The fact that this keeps happening to star Chicago players suggests that's just how it is here. They haven't created a structure where you feel like you'll reach your potential," Hamilton said on No Offseason: The Athletic Women's Basketball Show.

After two rough seasons for Reese at the Sky, nothing seemed to click. The franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs both times, and Reese was carrying the load of the team both offensively and defensively.

Reese even criticised her team last year for not being up to the mark, which led to a suspension from the Sky.

While Reese revealed that she did not request any kind of trade and that her relationship with the front office was good, both parties would be relieved that they are not in unison.

But the trade was certainly a blessing, as Reese is enjoying her time with the Atlanta Dream and will most probably feature in her first postseason this year.

Meanwhile, it looks like Skylar Diggins has taken the place of Angel Reese in the Sky.

Skylar Diggins Unhappy With Her Role and Goes All Out on Social Media

As if the Chicago Sky starting the season off with a 6-14 record was not bad enough, marquee free-agent signing Skylar Diggins is not thrilled over the decision of playing her off the bench.

“Now I’m coming off the bench?????? Cool,” Diggins wrote on her Instagram story.

"And the crazy part about it all is that ... I've been so quiet," she added. "I've been so good and quiet."

Chicago signed Diggins as part of an offseason overhaul that saw it trade Reese to the Dream and bring in Rickea Jackson, DiJonai Carrington, Azura Stevens and Jacy Sheldon.

Throw in the draft choice of UCLA national champion Gabriela Jaquez, and there was reason for optimism. Well, that optimism is kind of dwindling now.

Diggins has started all 19 games this season for the Sky. Moreover, she is averaging 14.2 points and 4.9 assists and shooting 39% from the floor this season

And over the course of her Hall of Fame 12-year career, she has not started in 13 games. She has played 354 games, which gives her plenty of reason to be upset with her current situation.

The Sky will face the Phoenix Mercury next on Tuesday, and it will be interesting to see whether Diggins actually comes off the bench or not for the first time this season.

So, do you think it is fair to keep Skylar Diggins on the bench? Let us know in the comments.
