Minnesota Lynx forward Kayla McBride pointed out a hilarious moment that might have been overshadowed following the 100-76 win against the Dallas Wings.
In the second quarter, Natasha Howard rolled the ball as McBride initially thought Courtney Williams was going to get it, who clearly did not. According to McBride, the whole sequence ended up looking like two old women ridiculously chasing after a rolling ball.
“Well Tashy, she just kind of rolled the ball and so I took off after it and I thought Courtney was going to get it, but she didn’t. But she clearly didnt (laughing), so we just looked like two old ladies chasing after the ball, and still didn’t get it (laughing)… I’m sure the fans loved it.” McBride said in the postgame media availability.
The moment between McBride and Williams shows that miscommunication can occur even between the best of the best playing at the top level.
Despite the incident, McBride and Williams delivered impressive box score performances, leading the Lynx to a 24-point victory.
McBride scored 22 points on 7-of-10 efficiency, including 4 three-pointers, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Meanwhile, Williams also showed up with 16 points on 8-of-14 field goals, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Sitting alongside McBride in the press conference was rookie Olivia Miles, who has taken over the league by storm. She once again showed up big time against the Dallas Wings, easily outplaying the No. 1 overall pick, Azzi Fudd.
Olivia Miles is the Difference Between the Lynx and Other Teams This Season
Miles has more than lived up to the hype of being the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft, as May's Rookie of the Month showed levels to Fudd on Tuesday, tallying game-highs of 24 points and six assists on top of seven rebounds. Fudd only had six points on 2-of-12 shooting.
For those who have watched Miles since her days at Notre Dame and TCU, the 23-year-old was always poised to be an elite shooter.
While there were concerns about whether she would be able to translate her efficiency in the WNBA, Miles has passed with flying colors. She also recently received the Western Conference Player of the Week honors.
Miles has stepped up for the Lynx, who headed into the season without star player Napheesa Collier, who is still sidelined from her ankle injury. Collier also gave props to Miles as the player who makes Minnesota so tough to beat.
“I think the effort we have on offense and defense, every possession we're working hard, and we have Olivia Miles,” said Collier with a smile.
With an impressive 10-2 record, the Lynx will now face their biggest test in the form of four-time MVP A'ja Wilson and reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces, on Saturday.
So, do you think Olivia Miles and the Minnesota Lynx can stop the Las Vegas Aces without the talents of Napheesa Collier? Let us know in the comments.
