Jason Whitlock Drops Truth Bomb on Caitlin Clark's Officiating Treatment

Veteran journalist Jason Whitlock has criticized the Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and the WNBA's officiating in his latest take. Whitlock disagrees with Clark being the "victim" of the fouls drawn on her, suggesting that officiating has changed recently.

During an episode of the Fearless podcast on Monday, June 29, Whitlock discussed the average fouls drawn by players, in which Clark ranked third with 6.7 fouls drawn per game after playing 30.8 minutes per game. He also wrote on X regarding the same, comparing her stats to her rookie season.

"Caitlin Clark 2024: drew 4.5 fouls/game on 35.4 MPG," Whitlock wrote. "This season: 6.7 drawn fouls/game on 30.8 MPG. Officiating has protected Caitlin Clark this season; she is not a victim of anything."

Clark ranked fifth in 2024 in fouls drawn per game with 4.5. Veteran A'ja Wilson had the most fouls drawn in 2024, with six per game. If we compare it to last year, Wilson again comes on top, with 6.7 fouls drawn per game.

As for this year, Wilson again tops with 8.2 personal fouls drawn per game, with Sonia Citron also averaging 7.1 per game. This shows an increase in personal fouls drawn this season.

"It's hard to watch the WNBA because of all the whistles, because of all the replays," Whitlock said. "They've gone from two-hour games to two-and-a-half-hour games because they're over-officiating."

If we look at free throws attempted (FTA) per game in 2024 and 2025, the Connecticut Sun takes first place in 2024 with 20.9 FTA. Whereas the Washington Mystics take the top spot in 2025, with 20.7 FTA per game.

However, this year, we see a massive increase in FTA, with the Mystics averaging 27.4 per game, and 11 teams being above the 20 FTA mark. While Whitlock may not be wrong about the league giving away more fouls than usual this year, Clark does seem to have been affected by the recurring fouls as well.

Caitlin Clark Has Also Committed A Handful Of Fouls

While Clark may draw fouls, she has also been on the wrong side as well, with referees not barring her from the punishment. According to acrossthetimeline.com, Clark currently has five technical fouls to her name.

A player is fined $500 for one to three technical fouls, $1,000 for four to seven, and is ejected for a game after committing an eighth technical. Clark has gathered a total of $3,500 in fines to her name.

She received these fouls on May 13 against the Los Angeles Sparks, May 22 against the Golden State Valkyries, June 11 against the Chicago Sky, June 13 against the Sun, and on June 22 against the Phoenix Mercury.

For now, Clark has been suffering from a recurring back injury and will need to be careful about when she returns to play. The Fever will play the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, July 5, at the T-Mobile Arena.
