"It’s Very Couture": Naomi Osaka Lights Up Paris Court in Eiffel Tower-Inspired Gold Dress

Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka is known for her flashy on-court outfits. As she continues to blend high fashion with elite performance, she debuted a custom gold Eiffel Tower-inspired dress during her May 26 opening-round victory at the French Open against Germany's Laura Siegemund.

Following a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win, the 28-year-old described how she felt before coming on Court Suzanne-Lenglen while wearing her shining dress.

"It's very couture. You know the Eiffel Tower at night when it’s sparkly. I kind of think I look like that a little bit."

She did have a certain concern during her walkout, though.

"It reflects a lot, so I was a little scared the umpire was going to kick me off the court. I got two back-up, normal Nike dresses."

The outfit was designed by Kevin Germanier, known for his sustainable approach towards fashion. This isn't the first time that Osaka has been the fashion icon in a Grand Slam tournament.

Back in the 2024 US Open, she wore a lime green and white outfit with bows all over it, including a large bow on her back.

Additionally, she wore a turquoise tie-dye tracksuit jacket with wide-leg white bottoms, as a jellyfish-inspired outfit. She wore it at the 2026 Australian Open and dedicated it to her 2-year-old daughter, Shai.

For her, walkouts are the only time she feels like an entertainer, so she makes the most of it.

"Athletes are in show business. Grand slam walk-ons are the only time that I possibly feel like I’m an entertainer."

The confidence boost was clear, and that showed in her opening game win against Siegemund. Fans will hope she takes this momentum forward.

Can Osaka Beat the Odds at the French Open?

The four-time Grand Slam-winning veteran is currently ranked 16th in the world. But with a strong performance against Siegemund, she has now qualified for the second round.

She will play Croatia's Donna Vekić in the second round. Osaka returned to the sport in 2024 after giving birth to her daughter, Shai.

Before that, she won the US Open twice, in 2018 and 2020, along with the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021. Her specialties include serving dominance and her extraordinary ball-striking.

She poses a significant threat to opponents, especially with her finding her way back to reaching the semifinals of the 2025 US Open. However, she was eliminated early in this year's Australian Open, in the round of 32.

Her powerful baseline attack remains the key as she moves into the second round, as she faces Vekić.
