For the second season in a row, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is struggling with injuries. Despite about two weeks of rehab, the Fever star has not recovered from her back injury, and it's leaving WNBA fans worried for her health.
Ahead of the Fever's matchup against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, IndyStarSports reporter Chloe Peterson updated on Clark's injury. She wrote on X that the Indiana player would miss the contest with a back injury.
Last season, a groin injury sidelined Clark for all but 13 games, forcing her to sit out the playoffs. Now, a back injury is derailing her 2026 campaign in an eerily similar fashion. She has missed multiple games with the same injury.
Clark missed her first contest with a back injury against the Portland Fire on May 20. She exited the June 24 Phoenix Mercury contest mid-game with the same injury and missed the LA Sparks contest on Jun 27.
Absence from the Las Vegas contest marks the fourth time this season that Clark's back issue will make her miss the entire game or part of it. This trend has spread concern among fans.
NBA fan worried about Caitlin Clark's latest injury
Injuries have become a big issue with the Fever star in the last two seasons. Given her prolonged absence, some fans feared that Clark’s third WNBA season would be the same as her second.
“Is this 2025 all over again?” a fan asked.
Some fans already feared that the team was hiding the seriousness of Clark’s injury. One fan predicted yet another All-Star Game absence from the Fever star on July 23rd.
“Caitlin not playing Sunday. This is not good. I bet she doesn’t play in All-Star again,” the fan wrote.
Ruling out the Fever star from any game drastically cuts viewership, and the trend was also visible in the comments section, as some fans refused to watch the game.
“I’m going to the beach then,” a fan wrote.
The flagrant foul on Clark by Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas has triggered another wave of criticism against the WNBA. A fan blamed the league for Clark’s injury.
"This sucks. She don't even have that fire to be on the court anymore. The league is getting what it wanted," the fan wrote.
However, a fan was optimistic about the Fever star’s return and supported the Fever’s decision to rest her.
“Great sign! No long-term risks for the injury, and it's better to not rush it after last season!” the fan wrote.
Clark's prolonged absence will impact the WNBA and the Fever. It will not only impact the WNBA's viewership, but also the Fever's chances in the postseason.
Do you think Caitlin Clark will return before the All-Star Game, or do you think the injury is more serious than what the Fever is reporting? Let us know in the comments.
