Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark ended her gold medal streak with Team USA with averages of 7.0 points and 5.8 assists in five games at the 2026 FIBA World Cup. One day after that, her focus turned to Kansas City Chiefs football.
Clark made this tweet on X just hours before the Chiefs were scheduled to play their 2026 opening game against Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium, "WE ARE BACK!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!! @Chiefs ❤️❤️❤️."

Kansas City had just come off of an impressive yet disappointing 6-11 season which saw the end of their long run of making the playoffs, while their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was back after being sidelined for much of the 2025 season because of a knee injury.
Clark's support for the Chiefs didn't begin when she tweeted. It goes back to her days as a little girl growing up in Iowa.
"I've been a Chiefs fan since I was a little girl," Clark explained during an interview with ManningCast on ESPN in 2023. My brother was a Chiefs fan; my Dad was a Chiefs fan. I have cousins in Kansas City who were Chiefs fans."
Clark is a native of West Des Moines, Iowa, which is located about three hours from Kansas City. She would often travel with her family every year to watch games played at Arrowhead.
Clark kept this love even when she grew up, watching the Chiefs defeat the Houston Texans from Taylor Swift's box in January 2025.
Her passion for the team has not gone unnoticed by the Chiefs organization as well.
Patrick Mahomes Has Praised Caitlin Clark Too
The organization of the Chiefs had shown a lot of respect for Clark even before she made it to the WNBA. Matt McMullen, the team reporter, interviewed her in the Defending the Kingdom podcast.
Star quarterback for the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, was questioned about Clark at a Super Bowl press conference when she was getting close to setting the NCAA record for scoring.
He praised her by saying, “tremendous player, tremendous person” and predicted that she would just start dominating once she hit the WNBA.
Clark has also demonstrated that she is aware of the game outside of Kansas City. On the New Heights podcast, which Jason and Travis Kelce host, Clark remarked, "I'm a Drake Maye fan, I think he's been incredible. I'll probably be pulling for the Patriots. The Rams are really good, too."
Clark’s football weekend is just ahead of her return to the Fever for home games against the Toronto Tempo on Friday and against the Washington Mystics and Minnesota Lynx in their final regular-season games.
