‘I Wanted It’: Caitlin Clark Opens Up About Her Decision to Commit Technical Foul on Historic Night

Caitlin Clark had absolutely zero regrets upon receiving her third technical foul of the season in the Indiana Fever's 114-106 overtime victory against the Chicago Sky.

The Fever established a commanding 19-point lead until the third quarter, when the Sky went on a 14-5 run and ultimately took a one-point lead with 6:57 remaining. Clark had the opportunity to regain the lead, but her driving layup was denied by Chicago's Azura Stevens.

No foul was called on Stevens' block, as a frustrated Clark swung her arm in the air towards the officiating. "That's a foul," Clark could be heard saying on the Prime Video broadcast. However, CC did not mind the technical and revealed that it added to the team's momentum.

"Mine was definitely deserved, but I wanted it because then after that, I mean I got to the free-throw line more. The third quarter kind of started off when (the Sky) were the only ones going to the free-throw line and eventually we got there." Clark said postgame, per reporter Chloe Peterson.

But the whistle did not stop bothering the Fever, as White was also booked with a technical foul with 4:56 remaining in the third quarter after Aliyah Boston was called for her fourth personal offensive foul.

"I was glad to see Steph get a technical," Clark said. "If your coach gets a technical, that fight should fire the team up. You should want to go to war after that. And I feel like we did and kind of made a little bit of a run there."

And they sure did go to war following the third quarter and eventual overtime, as the duo of Clark and Boston made WNBA history.

Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston Ran the Show Against the Chicago Sky

The former top draft picks were the biggest reason for the Fever's overtime victory against the Sky, as Clark and Boston produced a double-double each, becoming just the first pair of teammates to have such a stat line in the same game.

Clark almost scored a triple-double with 32 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds on perfect 15-of-15 free throw shooting. Boston led all scorers in the game with 34 points on a 13-for-26 shooting from the field, while grabbing 12 boards and dishing out three assists. Seven of her rebounds also came off the offensive glass.

The Fever ended up scoring double the Sky's points in overtime (16-8), as White gave the star duo their flowers following the win.

“I don’t know that I can really put it in perspective, in terms of quantifying it. And especially because they’re so young. But they’re elite at what they do.” White said in the postgame press conference, per The Athletic's James Boyd.

As the Fever extend their record to 7-5 for the season, they will look to continue the winning streak against the lowly Connecticut Sun on Saturday to defend their Commissioner's Cup crown.

So, do you believe the Indiana Fever are finally gaining some momentum following an inconsistent stretch of games? Let us know in the comments.
