Hailey Van Lith Opens Up After Being Waived for the Second Time

Hailey Van Lith is back on the open market after being waived by the Connecticut Sun. The move marks the second time this year the former collegiate standout has faced a roster cut as teams finalize their rotations.

The first time Hailey Van Lith was waived off was just before the start of the regular season, with the Chicago Sky waiving her off before the Sun grabbed the opportunity and picked her. But she once again faces the same situation, but has taken it positively.

"Van Lith is grateful to the Sun, sources told me and
@kendra__andrews, for their transparency and the opportunity," ESPN reporter Alexa Philippou wrote on X. "And remains motivated to carry forward the momentum from her time with the Sun."

Lith, who had been a star player at the college level at Louisville, LSU and TCU, played with the likes of Angel Reese and Flau’Jae Johnson for the 2023-24 season before being selected by the Chicago Sky with the 11th overall draft pick last year.

The former All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year could play only 29 games due to an ankle injury. She then got dropped off by the Sky.

During her time in the Sun, she managed to average 8.1 points and 2.2 assists per game, while also making three starts for the Sun before being waived by them.

The roster move aligns with the team's recent struggles on the court. They certainly want to make some changes and get back to winning ways.

What Is Next for the Connecticut Sun, and What Impact Will Their New Signing Make

The Sun have welcomed back guard Leila Lacan as part of their team. The French guard won a silver medal for France in the Paris Olympics.

She was also selected to the Associated Press All-Rookie team last year after averaging 10.4 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.2 steals in 25 games that she played with Connecticut.

She has also led Basket Landes to this year's La Boulangère Wonderligue title, while also becoming the finals MVP. Sun will look to use her against LA Sparks on Saturday.

The Sun are in a terrible form, having lost eight out of the nine games they have played. Their single win came against the Seattle Storm.

Despite the team's mounting losses, there are some positives to note. First is the way forward Aneesah Morrow is performing, averaging 11.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Veteran Brittney Griner has also been in decent form, averaging 15 points, 5.7 rebounds, and two assists per game. The Sun will hope to bounce back against the LA Sparks, who are currently on a two-game winning streak.
