"Had to Cry a Little Bit": Bam Adebayo Shares Emotional Story Behind Proposal to A'ja Wilson

One of basketball's biggest power couples is on their way to getting married, as Miami Heat's Bam Adebayo opened up about one of the most emotional moments in his relationship with WNBA legend A'ja Wilson.

Adebayo recalled asking Roscoe if he could marry A’ja as he sat down and detailed the emotions flowing through him in that moment. Adebayo looks poised on the court, but he wasn’t nearly as calm in this moment.

"One hundred percent. That was the most terrifying question I had to ask him, I was like, 'Man, would it be cool if... about marrying your daughter?'" Adebayo revealed during a recent conversation with ESPN.

Roscoe went on to tell Adebayo that since he has A'ja's heart, he has two more hearts to take care of. Following the emotional exchange, Adebayo revealed that he needed a private moment afterward. "I ain't gonna lie. I went to the bathroom, I had to cry a little bit," the Heat star admitted.

Wilson was also a part of the conversation, as she revealed how Adebayo already "feels part of the family" and that the feeling of marriage is mutual.

"I would love to be his wife," Wilson said with a smile. "My ring finger is a little empty, if you know what I'm talking about."

The couple has reportedly been friends since the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, while rumors of them dating started during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Wilson and Adebayo used to visit each other during their respective games as well.

During the NBA All-Star weekend in February 2025, Wilson finally revealed to PEOPLE that she is dating the Heat star, and since then, they have been deemed one of the best basketball couples in history, both on and off the court.

All that is left for Adebayo to do is put a ring on Wilson, as the three-time WNBA champion still has a couple left empty.

As Wilson is in the middle of her own All-Star weekend, Bam also talked about how he chooses to deal with her critics.

Bam Opens Up on Dealing with A'ja's Critics

The couple has frequently supported each other's accomplishments and has been present on the sidelines to witness their magic.

But Wilson, who is regarded as one of the best basketball players in WNBA history, still faces her fair share of criticism, and Adebayo gave his two cents on it.

"I get so heartbroken because I can't help it," Adebayo said. "As much as I want to get on the internet and rip a [expletive] head off, it's just like, it's better if we don't because then we all know that it works."

Regardless of the criticism faced, the couple have their legacies intact and always remain a topic of conversation throughout the basketball fraternity.
